Pfaff sewing machine

I've been on the hunt for a sewing machine for about a year now and I've been close to getting the model I want half a dozen times. Each time I get close to getting it, something goes wrong with the deal. Someone decides to sell it to another person before I get there, it suddenly comes to light that the machine missing significant parts (no foot pedal or motor) or, as happened yesterday, it was a completely different brand and model (the person posted what they thought was a stock picture of a sewing machine).\

I'm looking for a Pfaff 1222, 1222E, but I'll take an 1199, 1209, or a 1471 (if its fully functional). I'm offering in trade a reconditioned w123, w126 or w124 power steering box shipped to anywhere in CONUS.

I'll post this is in the for sale section, but I figured this would get a bit more exposure here.

Well, I finally got what I wanted.

I picked up a Pfaff 362 for $25 because the owner thought it was seized up. I spent about a week thinning out and removing the Cosmoline from the internal mechanisms and another week trying to adjust the zigzag and needle position. Its a very strong and quiet little machine.

The other day I had someone respond from a months old advertisement that they still had a machine and would meet me. I picked the Pfaff 1222E up for $60, but it has no pedal. I'm still on the hunt for this as I don't want to pay the insane $125 that online retailers want.

Most of what I’ve read has it that Brother and Pfaff are similar in quality. Brother has a quilt making device I would like to have, just under $1000 bucks however.

The sewing machine was a hotly contested invention with huge stakes on the line. It is a noteworthy device still. Sewing machine repair is reportedly a lucrative part-time gig.

In 1979 while driving cab, I met an 89-year-old man who had operated a clothing making business in Seattle in the 30s and 40s. His wife had died some years prior, never had any children, she had had TB in her childbearing years. We became good buddies. He told me about some of the sweaters they manufactured, and described the first button holing machine that he acquired. One of those would be pretty handy.
