television question - looking at 75" Samsung

I'm shopping for a little larger tv that I can use streaming tv. I'm seeing a 75" Samsung tv at WalMart for $598 (DU6900F, Crystal UHD). Going to Samsung website I'm seeing a 75" QLED8K, QN900C for $4799.00. Then there are a lot priced in between the two (75").

I don't play games on tv, just watch it. Why the big difference in pricing? Is it just pic quality? Any thoughts/comments appreciated.

QLED is pricy. I would go to the store and see the picture quality of the TV's in person.

Check the tables for how far away you should be viewing from for a given screen size. You need a huge distance for the big screens.

I am not a huge fan of Samsungs. I'll take a LG or Sony over a Samsung. I think the color pallet is warmer and richer with them.

As for price differences, its all about the picture. Since you are not gaming, the refresh rate does not matter. If you line them all up side by side, you will see differences in color saturation, brightness and warmth. The TV for $600 is not a 'bad' screen if you look at it independently. The differences between TVs is going to have to do with panel design, back lighting, processor design..etc. The higher dollar TVs are going to have a superior picture. What I tell people is look at the picture and look at the price. If the two make sense, go for it. If you see TV #1 at $xx and TV 2 at $yy....you have to determine if the price difference makes sense to you. Buying a TV is more emotional than rational. I spent $1800 on a 65" LG OLED. Not a rational decision. I looked at that picture and it spoke to me. Still does. That TV does not make sense money wise.

Walmart tends to sell specific, de-contented electronics (i.e. specific SKUs to get to lower price points). I got a samsung tv from walmart a year or two ago and its been great. Only 2 HDMI ports, but that was fine for me. The other retail models outside of walmart have quite a few more.

Fwiw I have had other brands and keep coming back to Samsung after they start to develop problems.

Over the years I've learned that any electronic purchase begins to SERIOUSLY depreciate the moment you take it out of the store. In only a few years after purchase, some electronic purchases are literally worth ZERO.

My suggestion is check out ebay, craigs list, garage sales, estate sales, etc for steals on any electronic items. Case in point; I just recycled a PC that was only a few years old to the e-waste place. I probably had around $2500 in it and now it is sitting in the junk bin.

I'm not sure how it compares, but Costco has a 75" Samsung Qled4k (QN75Q80CDFXZA) for $1299.99, including 5 year warranty. You'd have to be a member, not sure if the savings would be worth getting a membership.

Back when large TVs were becoming mainstream and not just toys for the wealthy I spoke to a guy involved in building them. I asked why the price for the 70 inch screens was sooooooo expensive.

He said it had to do with the manufacturing process. His company had a failure rate of 90% so you were not just paying for your TV but for the other nine they could not sell.

He said when they got better at making them the prices would go down.
