B-17 Named "All American"

The fact that this plane was still able to fly is a testament to how well this planes were built.

I think that plane flew home with the tail hanging from the control rods.

When it landed the tail fell off. What a pilot! What a plane.

According to the article they used parachute straps to hold it in place.

It was always puzzling why the allies kept flying B17s over Germany with NO fighter escorts for quite a long period of time. A lot of our boys either lost their lives over this or spent the remainder of the war in german POW camps.


German Twin 88s anti aircraft guns.....bad voodoo....

The main reason was fuel range. The fighters lacked the ability to go the distance and fight.
