Question California vs. Federal - Major Differences

Hi - This is my first post, so please excuse any spelling or typing errors. I recently (last Sat.) purchased a 1985 300SD (California version) from a small auto dealer in the next town. First off, let me say that this discussion board has greatly improved my knowledge of the Mercedes greatly. I have been reading through some of the threads for the last couple of days.

Sorry, I wandered...The California versions of Mercedes. I understand that they have a few differences from the regular federal version. They have trap oxidizers, different transmissions, and etc. What, if any, are other MAJOR differences in these vehicles? I know that my 300SD is going to need some work soon (coolant leak – some other threads have been VERY useful concerning my problem, pretty much know what I need to do to fix it), and I really want to make sure that if and when I order a part, it will be the correct type, size and/or make for my car.

I have tried to look up differences just on the Internet through search engines, but I can’t really find very much concerning these two types. Thanks in advance for any knowledge or expertise that you might direct my way.

Matt
