Today I have good new- I have bad news

The good news is that I will now have time to work on my Benz, the bad news is that I am being PERMANENTLY layed off next Thursday and I won't have money to buy parts. My wife will have to get a second job!

Oh no...that's horrible. :( Where are you working? Any idea how difficult it will be to find another job, or what?

Joy...I'm getting ready to go out into the job market (for a year at least, before starting at the 4 year college)...doesn't seem like I'm going to have too many options...

All the best Warden! Just some friendly advice, be careful! Many of the folks I've seen do the 1 year thing get too used to having some money and stuck into obligations and never go back. Then your obligations pile up more and you get stuck in a monetary bracket and you are 35 by the time you realize what 1 year can cost you. I am not trying to sound neg and your situation may be different, just saying..be careful out there! I would try to go straight in if I could. Good luck!

Jay, hope you can find something soon, it is a tough market out there, actually maybe is a good time to go back to school. I see a lot of people doing that who can.

Good luck, Jay. I am sure something else will open up. Although times aren't the best, someone always recoginizes good people and will capitalize on the chance to hire them.

I resigned my overseas job of eight years last month because I wasn't enjoying it and it just felt like it was time for a change. I am hoping to find something that I enjoy much more than what I was doing. I may even try the TxBill option and try my hand at a business. Companies are fickle these days and have no loyalty to the employees, so perhaps the best thing is to do your own thing! At any rate, I am sure you will do fine and I hope you will be able to do something that puts food on the table and that you enjoy much more as well.

Good luck.

Jim

Tank, I know what you mean. I'm 99% sure I've qualified for an AA in history; just need to talk to a counselor (and I will be sure to do that), so if I do get caught in a situation like that, I'll at least have some sort of degree to show for it. And, actually, 'cause of a few unexpected things happening while I was at the community college level, I was left without much of a choice except for working for a year, to make enough $$ to get into the 4 year school. Besides, I'm still with my mom; she'll make sure I don't fall into that rut. And I'm not planning to go out and buy a brand-new car or anything like that (unless they both die unexpectedly, the 300D and my pickup should serve just fine), and I'm used to living frugally. I know what you mean on the temptation being there, and I'd be nuts to say I'm not potentially suscepible to it, but hopefully I won't be bitten by the bug. :)

Heck, I haven't even gotten my private pilot's license yet...actually, I need to start seriously working on that again. BTW, I'm planning (hoping?) to get into a career in aviation, so that's not just for the fun of it. :)

Sorry to hear that Jay
What kind of work are you in?

Jay 08-24-2002 09:12 AM

Thanks for all the encouragment and advice. I have been a truck driver for the last 31 years( see my profile). The last 3 years I have been living out of a suitcase, it was fun for a while, but I will not do that again, Lord willing. The good news is that there are driving jobs available in my area.
