Is "new" MB motor all new?

MB has started fitting a 3.7 litre V-6 to the S-Class, giving it the name S350. In one UK magazine, the motor is described as being "all new". However, its specification sounds very similar to the existing V-6 range (M113?). So is it a new engine, or just a bored and stroked M113?

Also, will it make it to other models in the range, in particular the C, E and CLK?

Wouldn't a 3.7l engine make it an S370?

Or am I missing something there? The last S350 was a diesel S-class in the early '90's, if memory serves...had a tendency to bend rods

Correct: you would think a 3.7 litre motor would make it a S370, but no longer does the number part of the model designation reflect engine size. It is definitely a 3.5l. The same thing is happening lower down the range: C180, C200 and C230 with the new CGI petrol engine all have 1.8 litre engines.

There will be a SL350: that badge hasn't been seen for a long time.

You just need to find out the engine number. If it's still a 112 engine (the numbers AFTER the decimal will be different) then it's obviously basically the same motor.
