I have a rock star

From a rock hitting my windshield at high speed.

It hasn't spidered yet and I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to prevent the inevitable spread. Any good ideas?

Unfortunately it is directly in the driver's line of sight and I'll have to replace it eventually but I don't have the duckets on hand. I've heard the windshield on a '91 190E is about $900. Does that sound right?

Thanks for all the help in advance.

Call your insurance they should pay for it to be repaired. I remeber the first week the had the 500 this happened and my parents flipped out. The glas shop puts a cup on it and does their magic. 6 years later it was still fine.

Had one on my 300E and left it alone for three years before fixing it a few months ago for free. They called my insurance company. That didn't go very smoothly, so it was easier to just pay them the $35. But no problems with it so far.

Wish I did the same to the ML...picked one up on the extreme left corner. I left it alone for almost a year, and now had recently propagated to a 2-foot horizontal crack!

Line of sight of course, so it's getting replaced next week...I was quoted $375 though, AND it has the integrated radio antenna...where does the $900 quote come from?

I just had my windshield on my 190D replaced by THE guy who does all the glass for our local Mercedes dealer.

I had two quotes. One from a local chain shop- $482 Canadian, or THE guy $554 Canadian. I picked him because he has only done about 500 Mercedes windshields. Conspicuous consumption, I believe they call it.

I'm happy as a clam. And I have the sticker where it should be, too.

$1US=$1.55Canadian.

So, translated that should be $300-$375 US.

Wow! That's heartening. The 900 quote didn't come from an official source, but he's usually right on when it comes to the cost of the items on my car. Those figures are much more along the lines of what I can afford.... Thanks.

I'll look into getting it reparied first though. Hasn't started spidering..... yet.

Do a search on "windshield" and you'll see lots of opinions re: replacement options. Official MB windshields, with the star, are more expensive than OEM but still MUCH less than $900. I had mine replaced for $300 with PPG.
