And my brother and I just built a log splitter! Had I seen this sooner, it would have been a lot simpler!

Thing must be fun....

I'm a Ford/Mopar guy, so I think I should keep my mouth shut... *whistlin' innocently*

As to whether the "truck" pictures is capable or not is another story, but will the pole attached to the blade handle the pressure {added in edit; looks like the pole's metal, so I take that back; on first glance I had thought it was wood}? Seems pretty small to me...granted I don't know much on log splitting.

Just hope the "truck's" frame doesn't buckle under the pressure :p

Okay, I'll shut up now... *whistlin' innocently*

{also added inedit} Woohoo!! 500th post

Are you in any way related to Tim Allen? I think you should refer to your truck as the Binford 2000!

Look at the length of that pole!

Yall must be splitting some long logs!! When you're finished you can crush the aluminum cans with those big tires!

the lance is square steel tubing 3/8 inch wall thickness that fits inside 2 inch square tubing the same size as a regular trailer hitch .the wedge is a standard splitting wedge welded to 2 inch tubing that fits over the lance I weled it in DC mode. The plate where the bumper was is 1/2 inch thick. The lance holder unbolts from the plate so I can bolt on a full width bumper when not spliting wood.
Yes it has 454 engine 400 tranny, Eldebrock 600 preformer carb ,big tube exaust with cheery bomb mufflers, double oversized
gas shocks up front, and needs paint and an Irish name as has a bit of a thrist..........

What is being done with it in the picture?

Looks like two halves of a 55-gal drum.

I think I need something like this on my morning commutes as a "move over or else" tool.

I.m at the wheel the gentleman holding the spear is friend Clint who's idea started this crazy project I was telling him my plans to make a splitter useing a giant hydralic ram with a car engine to power it and he said why not use the car itself to power the wedge so along with ideas with another half crazy consaltant ,Clint and I jumped right in and had it working the next afternoon, ( all found materials.)
The drums are the log holder there is an alder tree behind the barrels ,the photo is our first try using a small log.Clint centered the wedge then I backed up a few feet ran the engine up on the brake and charged. Fortunately Clint was quick enough to get out of the way as the log split like a macth stick the wegde and lance going foward the wedge piercing the back of the barrel ,1/8 inch diamond plate holing the barrel halfs together and then sticking in the tree a 5 inchs ,we had to unbolt the wedge to get it out of the tree. A neighbor took a tape of it we were all laughing so hard we could barley stand up. Clint said I didn't think you were going to hit it that hard, and I replied with a movie line well I never blew up a safe before............

"The plate where the bumper was is 1/2 inch thick"

Who needs a bumper when you have 1/2" plate?
