Feel the Burn
When exercising my muscles often burn. I have heard instructors often say "feel the burn".
What causes muscles to burn during exercise? Is this burn a good or a bad thing? I had always been told when the body hurts its sending a message that you've over done it, but the message physical fitness instructors seem to be sending is that this burning discomfort is a good thing. |
i suppose that's an "italian tuneup" for the body.

When I used to race road bikes I drank Gookin ERG (Basically pedialyte made isotonic with glucose). It was developed by a marathon runner in the 60's who analyzed the sweat of other runners! When I used it, I would gulp down a slug before starting up a hill, and then at the beginning of 'burn' in my legs. Drove the pain away very quickly, and minimal soreness the next day.
Forty years later my son's entire ice hocky team raves about the stuff and how much stronger they feel 3rd period and the next day - they have abandoned their other sport drinks. I am not competitive any more (except maybe at the dinner table  ) , but here is the site if anyone is interested: http://www.gookinaid.com/ERG_Specs/erg_specs.html PS, I keep a packet around to mix up during flu season! :( |
