I have a '95 E420 that I topped out this weekend. I was driving through the desert and decided to see what it would do. I was on level ground and hit 127 very easily before the engine would momentarily cut out. I can't recall exactly what the RPM's were at but I remember that they were not even close to redline. My redline starts at 6000 RPM. I belive I was somewhere between 4500 and 5000. I'm guessing that it has a govenor that is limiting either speed or RPM. I would like to use the rest of the cars potential and get up to the bigining of the red zone.

Ah yes, tales of speed. How can you help but top out a car, even if its a bread van? It has brought great pleasure and consequence into my life. My 300D tops out right around 105-110. It feels pretty good at that speed, but you have to continue moving in a straight line. Not much of a slalom performer if you know what I mean.

Is there any way to bypass the unit that is limiting my speed? Is it a mechanical or electrical limiter? Is it limiting actual speed or RPMs? |

Speed limiter...Thats why you buy a '92
Sounds like you would have to figure out what the limiting factor is- ignition system or fuel injection system. How integrated are those post K-jet systems? I doubt its a "cut the green wire" type of bypass, or it would be posted all over the forums.

I topped out the 300CD at 114, many times, even downhill, musta been gears. Couldnt get the CE quite to the top, probably about 150, Z rated tires. And it is a '92
