Class action lawsuit against MB
Does anyone have any info about the class action lawsuit that is going on against MB? It has to do with the change in type of oil that was supposed to be used in the MB. The suit was supposed to be heard in Easton, Pa. Nov 25. The last I heard was MB was going to extend the warranty on certain models to 10 years 100,000 miles.

Check http://www.jacobsenlaw-pa.com for details. The case is not yet settled. MB wants to put less than $10M into the settlement and the plaintiffs want over $100M!
BTW, MB Canada won't even admit the problem... |
Interesting.....my brother-in-law just recieved some correspondence in the mail the other day, that his '99 E320's warranty had just been extended another 5 years! I had assumed it was in response to this lawsuit?

My letter from MB indicated the warranty was extended only for sludge related engine problems. :( Reading the link Dean provided, it looks as if Toyota and Honda are having their problems as well, but perhaps with less publicity? Honda for their transmissions, and Toyota for their engines. Seems as if cost cutting is breaking out all over, and a new generation of accountants and business people are going to have to learn about the sharp edge of the quality/reliability vs. reputation/liability equation.
At any rate, the article indicates the issue is ongoing in the courts, resuming on 12/20/2002. But to me, if you really believe you are manufacturing a premium product, you stand behind it (not behind a lawyer). |

According to my brother, the Toyota dealership he is working at is yanking the problem V6's and stuffing in a factory rebuilt motor. Maybe they are getting less publicity because they are standing behind their products. |
