Still use a Turntable?

Just Curious, does anyone still use their record player turntable anymore? If so what kind of brand of turntable do you have and when do you play it?

My family still uses their german DUAL turntable at christmas time when we put the Bing Crosby and Pavarotti on.

AR turntable, Shure M91ED cartridge! You change speeds by removing the foam cover, lifting off the (heavy) outer aluminum 33 1/3 insert, and manually moving the belt down to the 45 rpm grooves. Check the tone arm weight with the little beam blance, check the oil in the arm (change it hot and often ), drop on some Brubeck, Hair, or Sinatra, and off we go!

The last time I used mine was I think 1974.

Improved.Still works but all LP's are gone.

I used mine about 6 months ago to listen to Black Sabbath’s LP called “Masters of Reality”

It was Gooooood!

The turn table is a Pioneer PL12 dating from about 1973, I think, and the needle is an Audio Technica AT25 dating from the early '80s when I got an excellent deal on it while working in a camera/stereo store.

I've always taken excellent care of my LPs. Anything I listen to more than once or twice, made a cassette from the LP. Of course I haven't seen the cassettes for about 10 years!

Got a 1961 AMI Continental jukebox, excellent, unrestored original, bought it about 10 years ago. Tube amp works great, fast warm up (remember warming up the amp?).
Very similar to the one on "Ghost" (movie with Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze). The one on the movie was a 62 Continental 2, the 61 has better colors and has a chrome star (no not 3 pointed) made up of 4 chrome "V"s pointing at each other. They only made this style these 2 years, has the glass bubble with the turntable underneath, you can see the arm pick up and drop the record (45, or 7" single to you young folks. Ah hell, even the young folks don't know what a 7" single is anymore, even that terminology has disappeared, much less what a "45" is). Anyways,it also has what looks like a radar antenna that the title strips go in, standing up behind the dome. Looks like a cross between a washing machine and a prop in a James Bond movie.

I've got all sorts of music on it, picking mostly on the early 60's era rock, especially intrumentals-- Link Wray, Ventures, Tornados, etc, etc, and some later rock tunes my wife wanted on there. I have quite a selection of 45's since I bought the jukebox, I change around the records once or twice a year.

Yep, I sure do, $.10/play, 3/$.25. It's fully operational. I could get it to play for free, that would take all the fun out of it.

Its a 1982 Rock-ola, its a newer style, digital and all. We use it mostly when company comes over.

I always look for the old 45's whenever I'm at a flea market, or garage sale. My best finds have been online at ThursdaysGoldenOldies.com , they cost more, but all the work is done & they usually have 90% of what I'm looking for. They also have LP's too.

I have a blend of music in it, but it's mostly stocked with good ole country like, George Jones, Johny Cash, Merle, Tammy & Loretta....

I can set it to play for free, pay or a combination.

I have a BIC with a Shure cartridge. Dates back to about 1970. Last time I played it was when Frank Sinatra died. We put all his albums on and played it all day long.

There were the best music machines ever to cross my life.

I think we had a Pioneer - but I really can't remember. It was so long ago. I remembered how we had to change the stylus every so often. And the music was so warm and so real, save for the little specs of dust that we don't enjoy.

It was hard storing the discs in our tropics but nonetheless it provided many moments of pure listening pleasure which modern day CDs dont match.

Bought a new turntable a couple years ago to play my old LP's on. Went to Best Buy. Conversation went something like:

ME: Does this one come with a cartridge?

KID: Cartridge??

ME: You know, the thing where the needle goes..

KID: Needle ??

Always a treat when the lights are dimmed, we would gather and Saturday Night Fever croons. Ours don't work no more ... have to go back to check the brand.

Ahh yes, turntables. I think I own damn near every LP and single ever recorded by The Who, and what better to play them on? I've got an old Bang & Olufsen Beogram turntable, McIntosh C40 preamp, McIntosh MR7083 tuner, McIntosh MC7300 amp, Nakamichi MB4s Music Bank CD stacker, Technics digital EQ, old Altec Lansing Voice of the Theaters in the front and Cerwin-Vega VS150s in the rear. Oh, and for casettes, an old Marantz 3 head deck. The TV is a JVC 32" D-Series screen and DVD player is by Panasonic. Santa brought a Play Station 2. What fun it has been!

Music is my other passion, aside from vintage cars. I spent many years piecing together a sound system that I would be happy with. I think some of the best advice my father gave me was "Buy good equipment, because it's something you'll have for 30 years."

Anyone remember DCCs? I almost got suckered into buying a (then new) Marantz DCC deck, being told that they would be all the rage. Well, luckily I decided against that and boy am I happy!

We've got a great stereo store in Cleveland by the name of Audio Craft. It's an audiophile's dream, equipment by Adcom, Klipsch, McIntosh, Nakamichi, Pioneer ELITE, Yamaha, B&O. All of them. If anyone is ever in the Cleveland area, give me a hollar, we'll go in with The Who's "Quadrophenia" and test out some $27,000 speakers!



P.S.--I do also own Black Sabbath's "Master of Reality" as well as "Paraniod" and I can attest that they both sound WAY better on vinyl! Of course, so does The Dead, King Crimson, The Beatles, Traffic, Jefferson Airplane.....you get the picture!
