Someone recommend a fitness book please

I need to hit the gym this winter. What I want to do is to lose some weight, build some muscle, and still fit in my clothes. I figure I need to lose about 15 pounds and about 2 inches around my waist.

I tried BFL (www.bfl.com) / body for life last year. Has good guidelines on eating and fitness. Check it out.

Also elitefitness.com has some stuff, but a little too hardcore maybe.

Good luck.

Al Roper has a new barbecue book out. I don't know if he details his current "Swingline" fitness regimen in it but it sure works!

Kuan,
You don't need to spend any $$ on any of those books. All you need is determinations, listen to your body and common sense.

I have been bodybuilding for 15 years and 3 of which competitive. You can read all the books you want, but every body is different and thus every result is different.

If you hardly exercise before and expect to see results within 60 days, forget it. That is the biggest reason people give up exercising. You cannot undo damages in the course of your life time in short periods. You have to set your mind that this is going to be a life changing experience, and that means you wil try to stick with the regiment at least 3 times a week.

Do not deprive your body food it carves. Eat with moderation and exercise as often and you will have a balance.

I will start with some light exercises such as brisk walk on the thread mill for 30 minutes everyday (or try everyday) for the first 3 weeks. Once you start losing body fat, you can add 20 minutes of weight training. By this time, you can reduce your walking to 20 minutes so your total workout time should be around 40 minutes 5 days a week.

After 6 months, you should see results and begin to feel good about yourself. From there on out, all you have to is to perform "maintainence" work.

Good luck and happy exercising.

Man I don't need a personal trainer. Most of what I know I've learned from reading a book or from you guys on mercedesshop

I'm actually not that bad off. This year my winter activity is being cut down because I've decided not to play indoor soccer. I think I've officially reached middle age. My knee hurts when I do the twist!

I manage to swin about 1km twice a week so there's some burned calories, but I'm still a little flabby because, duh, I like to eat too dang much!

I actually used the gym for the first time yesterday. I'm sore but I can still stand. The machines are awesome, it's hard to have bad form when you use the machines. Think I'll wait a few days though before going back again! Thanks Tank, but I think I'll skip the Al Roper book!
