Thumbs down Bosch: Made in Japan?

I heard a nasty rumor about Bosch being secretly bought out by the Japanese.
Is this just another one of those dumb rumors??

Yes, Toyota bought them. Three cheers for "The Japanese."

Does that mean we're going to have to replace some parts off of our cars with toyota parts?

The Germans sold out???

Kuan, don't take "the Japanese" the wrong way.
Great stuff comes out of Japan but I don't like the way companies cross lines and blur everything.
It just seems more corporate to me and all about the bottom line.
Where does the passion go that went into building something (with your own hands ((many years ago)))?

Guys, I don't think Bosch has been bought. It would be all over the news by now if it were. I don't think you can keep things like that secret. Perhaps a little quiet but never secret.

Yes I take "The Japanese" the wrong way, especially in the context of an automobile discussion. It reminds us of the time when Detroit was told by Congressman Dingell that they were losing jobs to those "little yellow men." It reminds me of the time when Vincent Chin was beaten to death by two autoworkers even though he had not one Japanese relative. These two autoworkers, btw, received three years of probation for their crime.

Maybe we should be more worried that Wells Fargo is owned by Hongkong Shanghai Bank Corporation. You know, "the Chinese."

Kuan, I'm sorry you take offense.
I'm not sorry I said "the Japanese", I didn't mean anything derrogatory by that.
If someone said "Did the Americans buy Jaguar", I wouldn't take anything by that, but if I was a Jaguar fan, I wouldn't want Ford to be meddling with my Jags. (Not saying that your not an American citizen!!?? I have no idea)
Sometimes intent is lost on e-mail forum.
What it get's down to is not about race. It's about not having an outside company being involved in the production of parts for our Mercedes-Benzs. I just want it to be controlled by Bosch that's all. But, if I had to pick one, it would be "the Japanese".
I can't tell if LuckyF8 was serious about Bosch being bought out after WWII. If that's the case than I have no complaints about "the Japanese" parent company cause it's been fine all along.
Surely terrible things have happened to people because of racism but it probably applies to every country on earth throughout history.
Kuan, hope you know where I'm coming from. Next time I'll do more research on a company before asking a dumb question.
Josh

Josh, sometimes things are better said a different way. Perhaps if you had asked whether Bosch was bought out by one of the Japanese automakers it would be different. The difference being "the Japanese" refers to a group as a race, and "a Japanese automaker" refers to a company which is incorporated in Japan. More often than not, a reference to race carries with it stereotypes.

I understand you meant no ill intent, but sometimes we grow up without understanding that minor intricacies in our language can have dreadful implications in our world view. We should all take some time to think a little about how we say things.

It's my turn to apologize for jumping on you so quickly. To tell you the truth, I've about had it with giving people the benefit of the doubt. There's no time like the present I say. With that, I humbly hope you forgive me. I hope you understand. No hard feelings.

Kuan

Tank,

Sorry, I'm sorry I never really read your reply through and through. From what I can remember I never thought I jumped on you, did I? OK, I'm sorry if I did. Really, sometimes I just don't read stuff till it's a couple days late. By that time the thread is like 2 pages longer.

I know my weaknesses, and one of them is not reading thread thoroughly. I'll read a thread and have to post two or three replies becase I missed reading like a whole paragraph.

Have a beer on me!

Kuan

No worries Kuan.
Just communication gap.
Maybe we need more emoticons so that no one will missunderstand us? :p

A Japanese company buying Bosch! What's next? A German company buying Chrysler?
