Do you own a boat?

I am a Coast Guard captain and was curious to see who else was into boating.

Im mainly into sailing. I have two sailboats.

1 Flying Scot
1 Racing Sunfish

and in the summer I captain a 55' catamarran out of St. Martin.

Id really love an old Mahogany Chris Craft inboard speedboat like in the picture below.

Post pictures if you have them!!

My Catalina Capri 18 (sail #336) has been rotting in dry dock since my son was born in 2000

It used to be moored in Rock Hall, MD (Chesapeake).
BTW Nice boats, but you need a Flying Dutchman

It's my yacht. Its made in Italy and it is like an oversized S600 interior. I have it in Florida right now, I'm going next week to Florida to interview some captains. It costs a couple thousand to just fill it up with gas. I just leave it in the dock and throw parties with it sometimes. I dont have it in LA because I like the Miami boat environment better. Mine is a 1997, I got it off a friend that was in some financial trouble. I bought it at a great price. Next boat I buy will be much smaller and easier to park.

I have a tender for Royaii. It is an 18 Foot Searay bowrider that I have fun with every chance I get. I have a small lake near by that I ski in and let the childern play in. Every couple of years I go to Florida with it and play in the Indian River. Fill up cost including my truck is about 75 dollars for gas. That should be just enough diesel to prime the big Azimuth.

Have a great day

Maxium 280. Mostly used in the Chesapeake Bay. Would love to take a long trip all the way to Florida on the inter-coastal.

royaiii, ever thought about adopting a pure bred, middle-aged Polish guy with Permanent residency in US, read haired, green - eyed wife, and a blond,blue-eyed 2-year old son??

We don't eat much (except my son), are a perfect company, and you would not have to pay me to run your boat...!

Actually I have quite a few boats. I sail competively and enjoy racing very much. We have a Tartan 10, (33') with a scheel keel, M-Scow, (16'), Barnegat Bay Sneekbox,(15'), 18' power boat, usually used to tow the M-Scow to races and to zip around the bay, a 10' Toms River Sailing Pram, (all mahogony and simply gorgeous), and a Viking Iceboat! I enjoy all forms of sailing..but my favorite is ice boating. The bay has not frozen over in the past 10 years so I have had to travel to Budd Lake in northers N.J. It's been cold here since Thanksgiving so I'm hoping perhaps this year we'll have ice here!

When I was young, my folks had a '62 Chris Craft Cavalier. It was a 35', hull made from marine plywood. It was the so called "economy" cabin cruiser but it had twin Chevy 283s and man could it fly!

Along with the CC, my father got an old Owens from somebody but it had serious dryrot so he sold it off to keep the Chris maintained.

I've had one boat and it was a '64 Lyman. It was one hell of a Lake Erie boat, that's for sure! That deep vee hull made cruising in rough waters as smooth as glass. Once I sold the Lyman, I pondered something mildly exotic such as a Donzi but decided those are a little too ostentatious for my likes. I think when I'm ready for another boat, it will be an old Chris Craft of some sort, probably (if I'm lucky) a mahogany runabout like Peyton 300D had a pic of.

Of course, I have always thought how cool it would be to buy a Wellcraft Scarab and drop twin Mercedes 6.3 or 6.9 engines into it!

I love boating and fishing. My dream boat is a 60ft Buddy Davis. I also love old wooden Chris Crafts. I want to restore one so badly! I wish I had the money but college will be expensive. I love boating though my dad has a 19ft Bayliner that is fun to fish from and mess around with. My grandpa has a 31ft Chris Craft that I love. I can't wait for summer it is depressing thinking about how all of the boats are sitting on land covered in snow.

See my signature. We have similar interests. I also have a 33' sailboat and an iceboat! Iceboating is the greatest kick in the pants of non-motorized sports that I have experienced. I sometimes sail in the mountains on a lake next to I-70. It's thrilling to pass the cars on the interstate on a wind powered machine! I spend a lot more time canoeing than I do sailing or iceboating. I'm an American Canoe Association whitewater canoeing instructor. Just finished a great three day trip on the Colorado River over Thanksgiving.

Kerry.......you are sooooo right about the ice boating. I have a fiberglass skeeter, 17' overall including the springboard. I have built two hollow runnerplanks from Sitka Spruce and they have held up quite well. There is absolutly nothing like it ......We held the DN worlds here about 10 years ago. the last time we really had any ice. I have many pictures from the races....there were even a few old stern steerers and some skimmers here. Henry Bossett, who has been the DN world champ three times lives about 10 miles from my house. He now owns a North Sails loft, but use to cut sails under his own name. He a huge picture of my ice boat hiked up hanging on his wall. A Ranger 33 is a pretty fast boat. What is your PHRF rating on that? My Tartan is 117 and is tough to sail to that in heavy air. My rating drops in the ocean to 112 as the boat really favors going to weather. I usually sail downwind on a very broad reach.....I may have to cover more water, but the boat is sooooooo much faster just a few degrees to weather. Just remember.......Ice boaters do it when it's HARD!
