Question Bike racks for a W201

Howdy,

I have a 190D 2.2 for daily transport and would like to know your recommendations for bike racks. I'm looking for a roof mount rack. I have a Yakima on my my Toyota corolla which seems to work well, but I'm worried about the rain gutter on the 190D.

Speeking of rain gutters, the owner's manual says to use a rain gutter mounted rack, but at the same time, the Yakima and Thule sites list the rack for use without rain gutters as the proper rack for my car. Question is: Is there a hook or screw attachment underneath the rain gutter trim that would mount a set or rack rails?

Thanks,

Sholin

73MB,

The 190 doesnt have rain gutters, the racks fit inside the door jam via Aero footpack. Thule is definately the way to go. MB actually has notches inside the door jams to guide you as to wear to mount the foot it also keeps the bar spread even.

Good Luck

www.************************ has a rack that uses the rear license plate holder as an attachment point.

Back when I used to ride, I was in no shape after a ride to hoist my bike onto the roof. Being just under 5'7" doesn't help

I have a Thule rack which I used to use on a Nissan Maxima, also without rain rails. Worked great. If your bike is worth a lot to you, pay the extra bucks and purchase the mounts that can also be locked. You'd be hating life to leave your car and bike on the rack, enter a store, then return to find both rack and bike gone. The lockable mounts are about $10 apiece.

Also consider buying a wind deflector to reduce the wind noise associated with roof mounted rack (if you go that route). Thule's are about $50. Hope this helps.
