arowana/dragonfish questions

Hello everyone,

I believe there are some arowana/dragonfish owners and fans out here, so here goes:

I would like to get a red arowana. Its of the asian species. I have had VERY difficult times finding someone that sells them. When i ask, they tell me its illegal in the U.S., is this true?

I have heard of people with them and have pictures and even stores in cali that sells them so if they are illegal, why are pet stores selling them?

How much and where did you purchase your arowanas from? If i cant get a red, a gold, green or even silver will do. I went to some internet sites out of malasysia and thailand that has a miminum order of $10,000 or 10 peices which is out of my price range or quantity need. I just want 2 small reds. I have heard of people paying $1200 for a baby red the size of a finger, is this true or over exaggerated? Thanks...
