Who has to work Christmas, and why?

I work with computers for a government entity and will be monitoring systems and covering help desk for various law enforcement and medical agencies. Anyone else working?

Hill:

Thanks for being there and doing an important job, along with the LEAF people (law enforcement, Ambulence, Fire), phone, electrical, water, and other infrastructure support who keep things OK for our holidays. My son wants in your field (Info/net security - white hat things). I reminded him of the days I wasn't there for holidays when I worked as a cardio-pulmonary tech at a hospital emergency room, and that this was part of the turf he wants into. OK by him, but he is in his 20s and single - tougher with a family!

"My son wants in your field"

Tell your son that education is the best ticket. During normal work times I usually spend a lot of time correcting the work of people with alphabet soup titles. If you start out with titles it is a very lucrative field.

Funny you should happen to ask Darryl.

I was just fixing to start a new thread regarding the same, except wishing all my friends here, real and virtual, a wonderful day with their families, while those of us who have to work do so.

Law enforcement is a 24/7/365 job and more often than not on third of all of us get the short straw and have to work. This will make 16 of the last 18 Christmases "just" another work day. Wasn't too bad when I was on mids, usually home before the kids were up, but really bites on day watch. The wife is on mids right now, just left for work, I'll lay out the presents and she'll be home in time to try to control the kids . I'd gladly trade off all of the holiday pay for the time at home.

No telling what tomorrow will be like. Might be busier than all get out or absolutley quiet.

Y'all have a great day, enjoy your families and the time you have with them. Those of us who have to work, will somehow make it up in the end.

To those who have to work, I hope y'all have a safe day, enjoy the family when you get home.

I guess I ought to be thankful that I have Christmas day off. I have been jealous of people like my wife, younger brother, mom, dad, and aunts and uncles that have been off since last Friday and have spent this week shopping and visiting while I have been at work. My butt was at Wal-mickey until 10pm tonite getting those last minute items. They all have until the 2nd off and my wife until the 6th off (teacher)

I work in a retail enviroment and we only get the day off. I forget about those who look out for us and protect us that go on like it is any normal day

You guys that have to work, i will be thinkin about ya, and hope you do get some time with the fam!

good nite, Santa just landed here at my house:p

I volunteered

I have the seniority not to have to work Christmas. But with no kids or encumbrances. I would rather work it and have the guys spend time with there families.

"No telling what tomorrow will be like. Might be busier than all get out or absolutley quiet."

Christmas is real strange that way. If the DUI rates keep falling as they have been and Uncle Joe doesn't stab Aunt Martha with a fork :p It might be a sleeper.

Turned out to be a rather unusual day, things were popping. Best part of the day was that I got to roust some FBI agent out of his pink fuzzy bunny slippers , Merry Christmas ya suit .

The worst part of it was that I didn't get home till way late. Glad I let the kids open their presents as soon as Mom got home from work. They wouldn't have understood at all.
