Insurance Cost

Just curious as to what we all pay for this
necessary 'evil' ..

I know I'm getting clobbered and since I'm
adding a new car ( now 4 ) I've got to
do something to keep costs reasonable ..

I'm way over the state required minimum
coverage .. current annual bill works out to
~ $1700 per car for three drivers .. graciously
provided by Fireman's Fund

Jim in Ct ..

$2,400 Canadian for full coverage on one car with 2 drivers who have no accidents or tickets or claims (other than a windshield replacement). This is as much as we paid for 2 cars in Halifax. Last year I spent more on Insurance than on gas and I drove 16,000 miles!. This is even with my CAA discount and it was the cheapest quote I could find (I got three quotes in the $3,000 range and one over $4,000). They told me they have high claims experience with Mercedes and BMW here, which I think is a load of garbage. Shouldn't they base claims on the drivers and not the cars?

on my '88 300e, im paying about $1400 per year, though i live in eastern ontario which might be a factor in insurance rates...my 86 monte carlo was $400 per year, but that was for 3rd party liability only (the thing wasnt worth the rusted metal bolts that held it together);

ive already claimed $2500 on it when an old lady hit the door (the door alone was tagged at $1200) while i was parked in front of my home...mechanical repairs might not be too expensive, but methinks bodywork is where the costs get disproportional.

hence, i would say that when considering owning a mercedes, insurance costs factor almost with the car payment itself.

For the 1988 Mazda 626, 1990 190E 2.6 and 1998 C230 we pay $1356 for all three cars. All three have all perils coverage and low deductibles.

When we had the 1998 E300, 1998 C230 and 1988 Mazda we paid $1440 for all three.

For the 1987 Porsche 911 Turbo I paid double that for it ALONE. Between the insurance costs, tires, and maintenance and repairs, that car earned it's nickname "money-pit."

Most of the insurance companies here in Denmark rate the price of auto-insurance by the vehichles price when it was new and statistic risk of theft and accidents.

Back in 1986 my 300E did cost $145000! So my insurance company wanted $8800 a year for full coverage!

Then i found a small insurance company who specializes exclusively in older Benz'es. (8 years old or more) And now i pay only $560 a year for full coverage and zero price regulation no matter how many times i crash my Benz. -Not that i intend to..

Their philosophy is, that people who drive older Benz'es are not very prone to get themselves in accidents. And should it happen anyway, the price for parts is only approx a third of, say parts for japanese cars.

Finally someone sees how skilled, calm and thoughtfull drivers we Benz-people are..

Ask your company if they'd like to start a US
subsidiary and insure a 'careful' driver and
owner of 2 MB's based in CT

I'm paying $3600/yr. for full coverage on the MBs and comp on the VW.

I think that's reasonable in this area. Helps to be married and over 25 too!
