Anyone carries a fire extinguisher in their car(s)?
I don't but I'm thinking about it. What if there was a small fire starting, the extinguisher could make a difference. Beats not having anything at all to put out the fire!

i used to have one, and like the ones in my home, i have never had occassion to use it. i also know there are maintenance procedures/checks that i never do. i wish they would make one that is maintenance free and guaranteed to work 10 yrs/100,000 miles down the road...

I've got one in the MB's trunk.
My other car has a -usually red or even white-hot turbocharger, (19 psi boost!), right next to fuel and oil lines.. -The fire extinguisher is within reach of a hand at any time! (mounted in front of pass. seat) Better safe than crispy.. ;) Freestyler |
Didn't the Euro E500 (W124's) come with one under the driver's seat? I saw a picture of a member here in Europe who had one - great idea!

I and my family carry one if every car we own, if you had ever come up on a wreck that had a fire you would do. Dairel

Even better than a Fire Extinguisher
I carried a fire extinguisher in the car for years. When I finally had a Nissan 200SX catch fire, it didn't work, and I had to unvbolt the battery in a rainstorm on 49th Street in Hialeah while being honked at by idiots who seemed to think that the car fire was intentional and that I possessed a way of making both myself and my car disappear into the firmament, and this could be done by them honking.
Since then, I put a quick-release on the battery of every car I own. They cost about $15.00 and unlike a fire extinguisher, never dry up. All you have to do is twist the cap three turns and the battery is disconnected. Really cheap insurance |
I've got a bunch of small halon extinguishers around the house and in the cars. I like the idea of not screwingup electronics by using the halon, but not wild about losing O2 at the same time!

I always keep an extinguisher in my trunk. I should look into getting a Halon, I would really like to have a Halon extinguisher.

I have one in my trunk, left over from the days of living in an apartment without sprinklers.
Pardon my lack of knowledge, but why do you remove the battery if your car's on fire? Is it because it'll explode? |
MAybe it's to prevent electrical fire?
Ok I found this on ebay, is this any good?? EDIT: or these |
Anyone carries a fire extinguisher in their car(s)?
I carry a ten lb CO2 in the trunk. After all it is a thirty two year old Djet. :p
|
I wanna get that MB OEM fire extinguisher under the seat.
I wonder if I could get it from the dealer... |
MB fire extinguishers feature in all the MB accessory catalogues I've ever had. They are not very expensive.

Dry Powder Type
I have the dry powder type in the trunk.
Would like to hear choice logic from others. I chose dry powder vs co2 to keep from instant temp stress on hot parts. That is a cute OBX looks like its about the size of a thermos bottle, wonder what is inside? |
