I just wanted to see what people liked to keep around. one of my favorite things is a toy 1986 Mercedes-Benz 190E that I got from one of my relatives when i moved to Canada 12 years ago. I still have it (somewhere) and it's in pretty good condition. Also, off topic, does anyone know where I can get ahold of an air raid siren? I'd love to have one to put in my car as an alarm.

My lighter collection.

I have a sterling silver tiffany and co zippo from the 1950's.

I also have a gold dupont from the 50's

a Silver dunhill from the 50's

and about 40 or so other lighters, mostly zippos.

I'm a confirmed pack-rat. But for purposes of this thread, I do collect espresso machines. They're not at the house I'm living in right now, but I have a Pavoni, several smaller electric ones, some that are made for the stove top. All, of course, are made in Italia.

With me it was football cards untill about 8th grade. I could tell you the price of almost any card you wanted. I have started to tressure the stereo in my car now because it seems to be one of the most relaxing things I have yet to find.

That reminds me, I also have a 1986 Sony stereo. I love that thing. It used to be in a doctor's office, so it was almost never used. My dad got it from the guy, and he gave it to me. It's got a tape deck, a tuner, a cd player, and an amp, along with 8' speakers and fat Monster speaker cables.

In my living room is a rocking chair that my Dad and I restored. He bought it on Dec 12, 1965. It was for my Mom to rock her new baby boy in.

I have my Mom's Bulova watch. It's not worth much, but she loved it.

I have my great-great grandfather's railroad pocket-watch.

The desk my computer sits on is a hand-made Cherry-wood classic with inlaid work on the top and raised panels on the front and sides. Dad made it.

My comic book collection includes Amazing Stories - The origin of Spider Man. Don't care what it's worth, I'll never sell it.

During the last week my Mom was in the hospital, we kept a vigil and I kept a journal. I wrote in it every few hours at least. Reading it now breaks me in two, but I'm glad I have it. The book came from Lee Valley Tools, and is on acid free paper with the binding sewn together. Keep it from fire or water, and it'll be around for hundreds of years.

I have boxes and boxes of things my daughter did - colouring, pictures, crafts, etc. They fill up, and I buy more boxes. My basement is unfinished - we need the storage.

That reminds me too, on the desk in my office I have an antique Mercedes lighter dated 1968 from Royal London, Endland. I found it in a small antique store in Fell's Point, Baltimore. Bought it for my brother who smokes (I do not) a few years back. I suppose I like it too much.

When I saw the title of this thread one thing came to mind. I tried to think of some other stuff but one thing kept coming back. My dog. Chime is a pure bred Saluki and a rescue. My mother is calledby the local animal shelters whenever they get a Saluki in. It seems that the person that had her got in an argument with the landlord of the house and the landlord opened a gate when she wasn't around and let several dogs out. This was in the winter and there was snow on the ground. Chime was 10 weeks old. Nobody knows how long she was on her own but we figure a couple days to a week. When my mother got her to the vet she was in such bad shape (exposure) the vet did what he could and said we might as well just take her home to die. Well 4 years later she is still alive and she is so rambunchious that she is my dog because my mother couldn't handle her. She is the Queen. The first thing that came to mind when I read the title of this thread was the four hour long walks on the beach with my dogs. In spite of the Vancouver area being a populous place, there is one beach that rarely has more than a handful of people past the area near the parking lot.

My dogs like to hunt the mice on the beach, dig holes, run in the mud and roll in dead things

As for material possesions, I have an autographed photograph of Jimi Hendrix. I bought the photo from the man who took it at a show at the Smiling Buddah Cabaret in Vancouver. Portland Al is one hell of a guy. He has partied with ALL of the blues greats and has tens of thousands of blues albums, many unopened, all for sale at his tiny shop on Main street in Vancouver.

Yall sure are a CLEAN bunch with 'treasures' leaning towards dainty , indoor, fancy smanchey....

I treasure my GRAVELY TWO WHEELED WALKING TRACTOR... and its bullet proof implements ( 75 available ).... ( NO BELTS , all gear everything !! )
With a 10 month growing season down here I am just fighting to keep Mother Nature from reclaiming this property .....

I don't really "collect" anything per se, but I keep what I do get...for a lifetime!

My first ever stuffed animal I received as a newborn now sits proudly in my daughter's room with her stuffed animal collection.

My very first car is still with me (though not running right now. When time (and money) become more available, my daughter and I will resurrect it to its former glory. But while I did the car show circuit, I did start collecting trophies.

My home music studio isn't state of the art, but it looks impressive because I still have (and use) most of the dated hardware that I own. I do get a new piece now and then, but when added to the existing bloated collection of gear, the studio is beginning to look like a mad scientist's secret lab! :p

My home stereo rack is a collection of components that I could not purchase in its entirety. I bought a Dual turntable in college, and decided that I would purchase each new piece on my birthday. Did that for about 15 years.

I don't consider the MBs a collection, but a coincidence. A "collection" of MBs sounds a bit snooty, and I am so far from that income bracket...

All my genealogy collection. My bedroom is walled with shelves holding boxes of photographs, papers, more photographs, "stuff" that belonged to ancestors, and reams of papers with my genealogy on it (now going in the computer). I could lose every other material possesion, but this is stuff I'd brave a fire to save, after the family and dog of course!

RickG, I worked at the Library of Congress for several months and there was a man there who was a Geneology wiz. He had an apartment on Capitol Hill filled with filing cabinets full of Geneology materials. I asked him if the floor might collapse due to the weight. He wasn't worried about it.

As for the thread itself, some of my antique wood furniture, such as my maple dresser, my Marantz 19, which needs a tune up and a new scope tube, my two fantastic kids 10 and 12. I watch them and am just amazed they have grown up and changed so much over the years.
