Good Doggy

My dog loves baths. he just loves the water, and enjoyes the whole process, but he does get a little bit too into it sometimes.

How does your pet like taking a bath?

Felix (my Maine Coon) still hasn't forgiven my grandmother for giving him a bath...and that was a good 7 years ago She rarely comes up here, but Felix still recognizes her and either hides or lashes out...

I have two dogs that are sisters. Half Australian sheppard and half lab. Awesome dogs that are not too crazy about baths. They are happy and run around when they are done, but not during.

When my miniature bull terrier hears water running she will crawl on her belly under the bed and stop right in the middle. You guess the answer to the question.

Don't have pets now (my wife doesn't care for animals in the house ) but I had a Miniature Schnauzer as a kid. It was my job to "wash the dog"...especially when she started smelling more like a miniature "schnitzel".

The dog was pretty clueless about the water running and hauling out the dog soap and stuff...until I looked at her. She would let me place her in the tub and just stand there obediently.

The hard part was drying her off and powdering her up! She would roll around in the towel and flail and jump everywhere!

When I would release her, clean and fresh smelling, she would dash off to each member of the family for approval!

A real water dog !

Our mini poodle just loves jumping in our pool with us and swims like a champ ! Poodles were originally bread to be water game retrievers in Germany (not France) . People think that they re sissy dogs . Hardly ! They are also the proven smartest canine breed of all . (This is not my opinion , but fact . Buy any breed book that addresses canine IQ) .

Pepper will start to shake if she hears the water running in the tub with the bathroom door open. But when I call her in, she'll come in and jump in the tub by herself, but with a look on her face of distinct disapproval.

Chance only tolerates them. The process is full "brakes" while being "led" to the shower. He loves the towelling off though. Nikita is no fan of water either. The last time he had one, he had a severe look of discontent and growled his annoyance throughout the entire process. His "odor" though is one that he really never needs 'em so I've pretty much quit bathing him. He smells like freshly baled hay of all things. As for Snow, I've yet to try her.

My dog used to hate baths. He was a massive dog - breed was a Slovak Chuvatch. Looks like a Great Pyrenees but larger. He was about 165 lbs and pure white in color. After the first few baths, he caught on and would fight like a demon when we tried to get him into the bathtub. Our solution? In the winter, he was professionally groomed (I have no idea how they did it, but they did charge us extra) and in the summer - we tied him to our tree in the backyard and he got the hose treatment. Once he was wet, he calmed down completely and we could wash him.

He always got a treat after the bath. Didn't help future bath behaviour.

I miss him...

Pee Wee, our little mini dachshund, doesn't love getting bathed, but tolerates it really well.

She's only 10-11 lbs., so we wash her in the kitchen sink. We fill one half of the sink with a little bit of water (she's very short) and drop her in. She rests her head on the counter, and stays very calm.

I scrub her down real good with doggie shampoo and then rinse her off.

I always have towels ready, and bundle her up with towels and dry her with a hair dryer. She's a little weary of the hair dryer because of the noise I guess, but she's very obedient and wants to please me, so she calmly sits there till I'm done.

The best thing is that weenie dogs have very little hair, and are very hygenic. She rarely needs bathing - maybe once every 2 - 3 months.

my dogs need a bath once a week.

But they enjoy it. the one dog just loves it, the other dog mopes around in the tub, with this look of complete dissatisfaction.

Howdy All,
Chime, my Saluki would rather not get a bath but will tolerate it. Funny thing is she has a tub of water that she lays in out in her run . And when I take her running she will look for water or mud to lay in to cool off. Jazz is my new Saluki and I haven't had a chance to see what he is like.

I used to have a dog, Caesar. He was 1/2 Lab, from an award winning show dog, and his mother was 1/2 German Shepherd and 1/2 Greyhound.

He was pretty big, with long legs. Man! was he fast!! He was all black, except for a white collar and chest. So he wore a tuxedo his entire life.

The Lab in him meant he loved the water and so he got the hose treatment often, especially in the summer. Like someone else said of their dog, he had a nice scent to him even if he wasn't bathed recently.

He was a birthday gift in 1976 and lived to about 14 years old.

Greatest friend I've ever had...
