MayBach 62

I saw one this weekend in Houston in the "flesh" so to speak. Folks you gotta see it to believe it. None of the journalist do it justice. Kinda like someone describing "SEX" to you. You just don't get the full appreciation. Here's what I noticed, that they don't tell you.
Under the hood - The under surface of the hood is just as shiny/detailed as the outter surface and so are all the surround inner painted areas. There are 2 of those ABS brake thingy's. One on the left(like ours) and another on the right. They do talk about the dual calipers on the discs, but the discs are HUGE.... about the size of tires from an '80s model Honda Civic. The seats are simply incredible. Man!,.... you could drive this thing forever or just pretend to do so and go absolutely nowhere for hours. Stereo, don't EVEN get me started. They had some sort of Jurassic park sound effects CD that they were demo-ing. Made me look around a time or two to make sure I wasn't about to become BIG BOYS afternoon snack:p . The dash and door panels are suede(and or Nu Buck) covered so is the area underneath the seats where we have plastic. The rear area is cavernous. For any of you who have a minivan with the modular seating. Take out all the rear seats.Leave just the front passenger seats and go inside the house and get your lounger , your bad ass stereo(AND your Big Screen TV). Now put them bad boys in the back of that mini...Let it all the way out....... Okay now you're kicking it MayBach style. Decent trunk obviously. As you're riding around and things start getting a little hot and heavy with the groupy type freak that saw you in this kick ass ride and wanted to give up da booty, just have ol' Jeeves pull over and you and home girl can do it in the trunk and not mess up all that fine leather and suede. Unexpected company drop by, or your best friend gets put out of the house again...they could easily and quite comfortably spend a night in the trunk. Seriously its a damn fine car..er...automobile so check with your local dealer to see when it's coming to a store near you. It only stays for a day or two. Its apparently on a US Tour.
Price??? Well old chum you know what they say, if you have to ask... then its way WAY out of your league. ~$380K I think?

This is a serious question: what kind of mileage does it get?

Excellent question, with 550 hp and almost 640 lbs. torgue it would seem gas mileage could not be that good. With dual turbos and inter-cooler the 0-60 time is alsmost 5 seconds flat for a 6000 lb car. WOW !!!

Seriously - does it matter?

Let's work through a quick calculation. Let's say the owner puts 150,000 miles on the thing (probably way high, but let's be conservative). Let's also say it gets 10 mpg (probably about right). Over the course of 200k miles, the car consumes 15,000 gallons of gas. If you use $2/gallon, fuel costs over the period total $30,000, which is near meaningless next to the initial purchase price of $380k. Plus, the $380k is incurred today, vs. the $30k which is incurred over 10-15 years, so you would have to apply a serious discount rate to the out-years' expenses. On a present value basis, I would guess that gas is no more than 5% of the total ownership cost of a Maybach.

Anybody looking to purchase one really won't care at all about fuel economy.

That 15.9 is NOT miles per litre. That would be 61.5 Miles per US gallon. Unlikely.

15.9L/100km's is the stated consumption. I find that unrealistic unless you have Granny driving with a brick UNDER the loud pedal.

15.9L/3.87 = 4.1 gallons.

100km's = 62 miles

62/4.1 = 15.2 miles per gallon.

When I had a loaner ML430, I averaged 18L/100km's. There is no way that a Maybach 62 gets better mileage than an ML. Geez, the Honda Odessey get's 13-14L/100km's.

The ECE test actually gives a pretty good impression about the real consumption the car is going to get. 15.9 l/100 km actually is, for a european car, pretty high.

That the Honda Odysee just gets 13 - 14 tells something about the Honda

Kind regards
Eberhard
