Greg,

I've got a 190 Factory Sport Evolution. 1 of 502. I'm originally from Oz and was hoping to bring my Evo back with me when I eventually move back to Sydney. Unfortunately as it's LHD I have no chance in registering it unless I convert it to RHD which I won't do. I already enquired with the RTA.. Very sad.. I was going to try and pick up an Evo II as well before I came back but unless I only want to use it at the track it's a bit of a waste of time.. sigh!!

The 190E Evo models were rare with just 502 of each. I can understand you wanting to bring yours back to Australia. You are correct in stating that the RTA here in New South Wales will only allow right hand drive cars to be registered. I believe that once they are over 30 years of age (eligible for historic registration) that left hand drive can be registered for use on our roads. That's a long wait for a 190E though! I agree that a conversion to RHD would be neither practical nor wise from a collectors point of view. Have you considered the possibility of registering in another state or territory in Australia? This would require an address in that location though. I'm not sure of the current regulations but I know left hand drive cars were previously allowed in the Northern Territory. Someone also mentioned that the Australian Capital Territory also allows LHD. It might be worth looking into. I had another forum member private message me some time back regarding his 500E in the USA. Like you he was looking to return to Oz and wanted to bring his car with him. If he did it would be very rare being the only 500E (or even V8 W124 in Oz). Likewise your Evo would be very rare. The only one I know of here is the Evo2 in the museum in Melbourne I mentioned in an earlier post in this thread. I hope you can find a solution to your situation. I can understand not wanting to give up a rare car on returning to Oz. Good luck!

Mercedes made 2,066 350SD's. This model was exclusive to the US.

Mercedes made about 13,830 300SDL's. Also exclusive to the US.

Not sure how many 560SL's were made, but the 560SL was exclusive to other markets too.

For comparison, Mercedes sold in 2000 14,689 S430's in the US and 14,835 S500's. Remember that's just the US, and I've heard Mercedes is making 1,000 Maybachs a year worldwide.

That 300CE AMG in Australia, i've been tracking that for a couple years or something, 3X'XXX miles. I'd already have it if not for stupid reg.'s in this country. Frikkin EPA and DOT....

But hows aboot the 1000SEL, there was like 10 or something? Or the 129 500SL/SL500 with a manual trans.

No, it was technically aftermarket, but still rare. AMG was aftermarket for a long time, so i figured I'd see if anyone else heard of the 1000. Some company made a few 500SECs with gullwing doors, too.

600 Pullman Landaulet - 59 made between 1963-1981.
W124 6-door limousine

And for unusual/interest:

I have a 300SDL with cloth interior. I have never seen another maybe I have the only one?

The 1000SEL's were cool, I'd like to get my hands on one of those.

I'm still having a lot of fun with my '87 190E-16 valve. One of only about 2,000 imported into the US, so maybe there are 500 or so left at this point? The engine one of the most durable ever made with a beautiful exhaust note and it handles like a dream, thanks to self-levelling suspension.

I hate to admit it, but she's for sale. I don't have a garage and am having trouble keeping up the mantainance to justify owning such a nice old racer.

I don't want to turn this into a classified, so just PM me if interested.
