i just read how saddam's entire car collection was crushed to prevent looters from taking them at one of his palaces. they were concerned that the cars would just be used for car bombs and barricades. they all had the keys in the ignition with some gas in the tank. one looter had almost driven a rolls royce out of the compound when the car ran out of gas. he proceeded to try and pull it with a sheet but could not pull it off. among the casualties were a 1917 mercedes and a 1955 belair. it took 5 seconds to flatten the belair with an abrams tank! this turned out to be a very painful task for many of the troopers involved. :(

If that is true , then someone is a real idiot...

I hope some poor (but lucky) looters did get those cars.. more power to them...

Wouldn't be easier to just remove the wheels off of the cars so they wouldn't be driven off and used as baracades?

We are not trying to take the wheels off all the cars in Iraq... I hope the report of crushing was a rumor... Why not let some of those who have been repressed for 30 years have some of the spoils of the regime ?
