electric shaver recommendation

I'm using a Norelco now and I can't see spending for a new set of cutters at the prices I see.

The Norelco I have works well but I find it slow. It takes several passes to do the same job as the Braun I had previously. The Braun was a lot quicker but didn't manage the transition from my neck to my chin very well in the sense that it scratched me and couldn't get some of the oddball hairs that grow out to the side instead of down in that area. Don't ask.

Are the new self-cleaning Brauns any good? Worth the money?

Thanks,
Sixto
00 Norelco 5418XL ... or something like that

My 2 cents.
Where ever you buy it make sure you can bring it back. Like maybe Walmart. I have used Brauns for quite some time. I have my son using Brauns.
As a X-mas present my wife baught me the top of the line Braun. It could not cut my face. Each shave is different. The hole size of the foil was to small and would not allow the hairs to enter the foil so they could be cut 9 and I'm not a big burly guy, I'm blond. Hell I was a sophomore in collage befor I could grow a mustache). We got my son a $30 braun at Walmart and I tried it when he was home for a weekend. it cut my beard in 1/3rd of the time. It was model 3615. I called Braun and they traded me my expensive unit for this unit and 3 foil replacements. Not exactly a even swap. But I was very happy. I couldn't bring back the unit I had and I got what I wanted and 3 foils.
So try buying it a t a store you can return it if your not happy. I have found the cheaper brauns to cut my face the best.
I also found the rotory units would leave my skin red.
As I said each persons face is different. My father in law uses a Norelco. I can't. I also can't use a blade. It really cuts my face up.

I've tried electric razors in the past, but found them to scratch easily and to give a short-lived shave.

I think nothing beats a regular razor. A few years ago I got an actual boar's whisker brush and real shaving soap to shave with. It works great!

I also use the Mach III and recently ordered some razors from greatrazors.com.

There was a thread recently about which razor is the best to use. I've been using the same blade now for around six weeks and still get a close, nick-free shave. Can't believe it!

No, I don't have any financial interest in the company!

Thanks for all the posts. I guess I'll check out the not so top of the line Brauns.

I have a request to make of the hair growth industry -- why not market some of the mistakes that retard hair growth? I'd pay a lot more to cut the frequency of shaving than I would to regrow hair. As it is I'm a brown robe away from being a monk. I kinda like not ever having a bad hair day

Talking

I have a Braun and a Norelco - both mid-range, say E class like models ...the Norelco can't touch the Braun. It takes 3 times as long to shave with and doesn't get nearly as close.

I do, however feel that 'traditional' razor is the only thing that will make my skin smooth. But a blade seems to irritate my skin much more....so I just go with the 'rugged' look.
