A ray of hope for my 300E. New fuel regulator!
Ever since I reworked the cylinder head on my 89 300E, my gas mileage went down sharply. A couple of months ago it went down to 10 MPG so I just parked it. I suspected part of the problem was the fuel pressure regulator. I just didn't want to throw another $200+ at it without being sure. Well, last Thursday I got lucky and found a good used one from a local independant MB tech. He made me a good deal and said if it didn't work to bring it back. My mileage has more than doubled and as soon as I can fix my intermittant shortage that kicks the CIS-E into 'open loop', I should have a good running engine again!

Good good good.
At least your mileage is back up. What do you mean "intermittent shortage"? Do you reckon this is some sort of an electrical problem?

Congrats Cap'n!
Just two weeks ago i replaced my regulator with a -supposedly good used one. My milage went up from 6 mpg (yes SIX mpg!) to about 10 mpg. But only for a week.. Now i'm down to 6 mpg again. I'm suspecting my cat is now shot after pouring gallons of unburned fuel through it. and i simply can't afford a new cat AND a new regulator. Anyone want to buy a used 300E with an unsignificant gas milage problem? -The stereo is nice.. Freestyler

Uh-Oh!! I may have spoken too soon. It looks as if my mileage did not go back to normal! At the rate I'm going, I'll be doing good to get 15 MPH out of the tankful I'm on, which is still better than 10 but not 23 like it should be. This weekend I'm gonna take the fuel distributor/air chamber back apart and try to reset the static height of the airflow plate, then attempt to set Lambda. Yall pray for me!!
