Mercedes Colour Shemes, weird and wonderful

I thought of bringing this topic up in my rare Mercedes thread, but decided it probably deserved a thread of its own.

What weird and wonderful colour schemes have you seen? What are your favourite Mercedes colour schemes? Which ones don't you like? Tell us about any rare or unusual ones.

I'll start off with mine. My 350SLC is in the popular for the early '70s icon gold with parchment MB-tex. The icon gold was never really a favourite of mine but over the 20 years I've owned it, it has grown on me. It also hides dirt well and does suit the SLC better than some other models.

My 190E is in the fairly common for the '80s arctic white with blue leather. Not offensive and pretty easy to live with although the dark interior can feel small. The white is also complimented by the light grey lower panels.

Our 300TE is a strange one. Arctic white but with cream-beige MB-tex. I did not believe it until I saw it when we first looked at purchasing the car. I must admit it is a very cool colour scheme and gives a roomy, airy feel. It has been our first white car and is not as easy to keep clean as some would have you believe. Bug and tar spots show on the white (and light grey lower panels). Keeping the white under the wheel arches clean is also a challenge. The best colour scheme for not showing dirt was our 300TD in champagne with tan (tobacco or something I think) we owned before the TE. Having said how unusual I thought the colour scheme of our 300TE is, a friend phoned me last night and said he is looking at purchasing a '90 300CE-24 in the same arctic white with cream-beige leather.

As for my favourites, I think the dark colours look smart when clean although having owned one in midnight blue, they show dust soon after washing. Dark colours also get very hot in the Australian sun. I particularly like the two-tone pine green in the W124 and also tourmaline green and some of the dark metallic blues. I especially like these dark colours with cream-beige and parchment interiors. I also like the burgundy interior with smoke silver exterior that I think was popular in the US. We did not get many red or burgundy interiors although smoke silver was a popular exterior colour.

As for dislikes, I was not fond of some of the pastel shades of years past. Currently, I am tired of all the silver Mercedes. Our dealer showrooms here are full of them. If they are not silver they are black or something close to black. All a bit drab really, especially with those dull grey interiors. Not for me I'm afraid. I also think black interiors only suit some sports cars.

Below is a small pic of our unusual arctic white with cream-beige interior 300TE.

mine is Ascott grey two-tone; the original one that has to be polished once a week ( oxidation) and the repainted and flaking duplicate that is a completely different grey, with the clear coat completely gone from a trunk (boot) lid. In the US this color scheme is called " primer grey. "

Some of you have seen this one, to you, I apologise

This is what The Monster would look like in its "pimp outfit"
Don't forget, you have seen it here first. (I may "try" to do it in the future)

That's not drab

No risk of anyone calling the Extreme E500 drab! Looking at my W124 colour charts I can't see that colour. Something I did notice was the large range of colours that were available around 1990. The final update of the W124 (E320 etc.) offered a smaller range. Current models also seem to offer a smaller colour choice. Looking at some dealerships, it appears to be "any colour you want so long as it is silver".
