5 Liter 190 (W201) on Ebay
Geesh,
I'm not really convinced they made a 5.0 liter engine in 1983 (the one in the picture seems to have a K-Jetronic engine in it). Wonder what kind of front springs/struts you'd have to put in it to make it handle half way decently. 5.0 W201 Sholin

You are correct sir, I see a 500SE/SEL was made '79 - '91. That must have been the aluminum block version of the M117.
Yeah, I try to just hit my favorite searches on ebay every couple of days (i.e. mercedes 201, mercedes 108, mercedes diesel---got mercedes on the brain). Sholin

Am I the only one that noticed the "Squeeze" bottle in the trunk. Wonder how much hp the nitrous adds?
Nutty, but cool...

blackmercedes,
Good one, I didn't look that closely. From my Z-28 days, you can bet nitrous kits in the 75 - 150 hp range. They come in two varieties: wet and dry. Wet systems inject fuel and nitrous when activated. "Dry" systems manipulate the fuel injection system to add the additional fuel. Nitrous systems are pretty safe as long as the fueling system can supply the additional fuel. If the engine runs out of fuel, then it WILL DETONATE under a nitrous load. That's instant destruction for a cast-piston LT-1 Z-28, but a forged piston engine will take some abuse. Most of the Z-28 crowd runs nitrous pretty safely for a while (1 year) until either they turn up the nitrous or something fails in the fueling system. Then you see alot of LT-1's with broken rings and ring lands on the pistons. I'd say that if it doesn't show obvous signs of piston damage (puffing like a choo-choo train), you are OK. Sholin

I had a 1979 Camaro with a 355ci roller motor that was squeezed to about 150 extra ponies. Since it was a carb set up, we had to supply additional fuel to enure that we didn't melt the engine. I went with a forged steel crank, shot-peened "pink" rods and forged pistons. Four bolt main journals kept the bottom end together. Top end consisted of a roller cam and rockers. We port matched it to get good flow.
We dynoed it with the bottle on (main switch and under-gas-pedal activation) and she made around 500 rear wheel ponies. That was up from about 360 off the gas. Figure 400 SAE off and 575 on. The hurt was filling the bottle!! ($$$)
