Help me choose the names for the twins...

Help us choose names for the twins.

At the last ultra sound, the doctor was pretty certain that one of them is a girl. The other wouldn't cooperate and face towards us.

For girl's names, we like Sophia and Sarah. The middle name, whether boy or girl, will be her maiden name, Ito. Yes, she's Japanese. She has the same last name as Judge Lance Ito in the O.J. Simpson trial.

For boy's names, we are a little conflicted on the name - Jack or Clark. I am particularly fond of the name Clark, and so is my wife, but she has a slight preference for Jack, although she is still fine with Clark. My problem is that people's reactions are very mixed with the name Clark. Some people think it is too unusual, and that it sounds like a "nerd" name, and that they are sure he will be picked on. I just don't get it.

I think Clark is a classic name - it's a strong, to-the-point name that's not common. It's strong, honest, and trustworthy. I can see Clark as Vice President of a major coporation, a doctor, a lawyer or other high profile job as a grown up.

Plus, there are two famous Clarks - Clark Kent (who's really Superman), and Clark Gable (very distinguished). There's also Clark Griswold (the Chevy Chase character in Vacation), but I'm not sure if anyone will remember that character.

What are your thoughts?

18 weeks and already not wanting to cooperate! Just don't name him Burr or he'll be Burr Ito!

Sophia is nice, it means

But I like Clark, or Clarke, is a good strong name. I can't think of the origin, and off the bat I can't think of anything nasty to say about it's probably ok. But then I'm not an 11 year old kid.

I wanted Kaio for my boy, but it got shot down. I thought it was pretty good. My niece is named Piper I love that!

Given what you've been through to make this happen, I'd go with Victor (or Victoria for a girl), and Patience (no other boy name there, sorry).

What's in a name?

Don't listen to negative comments...if you like Clark, go with it. I like names that can be shortened easily to form nicknames...probably because my name can't be shortened. My daughter's name is Jacqueline, shortened to Jacquie, or sometimes Jack. My son's name is Griffin, shortened to Griff.

Sooooo...between Sophia and Sarah, I prefer Sophia...which I'd casualize (?) to Sophie. In the case of Clark...I'd probably formally name him Clarkson...and shorten it to Clark for everyday use.

Yeah...I'm weird!

I think this is a trick question and you are just waiting for someone to suggest " Mercedes"..... since it came from a girl in the first place..

Yeah, Victor, that's great.

I saw Gladiator the other night on TV. The Russel Crowe character, the Gladiator, was Maximus.

I like the sound of that "Maximus".

My last name is actually Smalley.

That would be funny, "Maximus Smalley". hehehehe

I like Alexis for the girl and Guy for the boy. Whatever you do, don't do rhyming names. I hate people that do that. I am reading a book right now written by Earl and Merle Black. Who the hell does that to their kids?

O.K., great, I'm taking this down.

Earl and Merle. Earl and Hurl. Traci and Casey.

How about if the first name rhymes with my last name?

Wally Smalley. hehehehe

I think Guy ( pronounced Gee with hard G ) is French... but worse than that... the infamous HIV spreader was a flight attendant named Guy.... infected over 2000 people directly... and many even after he knew he was infected...so at some point in time may be on the same list as Hitler,Saddam,Osama, in terms of awareness of association of bad behaviour...

I think you should pick a name starting with W. Like Wendy and Wallace, this way you can call them W201 and W202

Hi Paul,

Don't think I have sent congrats on the soon expected twin arrivals, so so enjoy the new beginning to life their's and yours.

As for names I remember trying to pick a name for our son (32 years ago) we had a long list and nothing justs sounded right and then one day I was watching a football game the old LA Rams and there was Roman Gabriel the quarterback. I said to wife "How about "Roman" and she loved it and so it was Roman with Scott added for middle later. Now my last name is Ray and I really wanted to name him "X".

Have a great day!!
