Direct Stock Investment

I'm interested in knowing if anyone can give me the names of some companies that offer direct stock purchase plans. Even better, I'd like a list of USA companies that have direct stock purchase plans---I've never seen such a list.

Some companies just have direct dividend reinvestment and others make you go through a broker to buy your first share and allow subsequent shares to be purchased directly from the company or transfer company.

www.netstockdirect.com

Comprehensive list of companies that offer direct stock purchase and dividend reinvestment plans. This web site is good for research, but you don't necessarily want to use them to start a plan. It might be best to contact the company (or their transfer agent) directly.

In some cases, the companies and transfer agents have online signup. Take a look at www.chasemellon.com and down the left side there is a link to search through their stock purchase plans.

Quite a few companies do not require you to personally own a share in certificate form.

A source for single shares might be www.oneshare.com and they used to have a "DRIP" list, but now you have to match up their offerings with plans yourself.

In evaluating plans, keep an eye on the fees - they vary a bit. In a few cases the plan allows you to buy at a discount to the market price. For me, it has to be a compelling choice to charge me anything more than $1 a month.

Hope this helps. I think its a good way to slowly accumulate.
