Saw one of these the other night at a parking lot of a grocery store at like 2 in the morning. It was blue, rusty and obviously a beater. My friend made a comment about how cool these vans were. I don't think she was all there when she said it.

I am all there

I think these things are so cool. When I first thought I'd never get an MB or a Peugeot, this is what I wanted.

Does that thing actually have 2.1 million miles?

My parents used to have the Nissan version of that thing when I was a kid. We went on a lot of road trips. I spent way too much time in it.

Noisy, underpowered, very touchy in the wind...

I've driven one, and must agree. Compared to one of these, a 240D is fast!

Those vans aren't that bad overall, with the captain's chairs in the center and 4 wheel drive (yes, that really was an option)...with a bench, I dunno, though...

Cool?!?! Are you kidding?

That thing looks like a Star Trek (old series) shuttle gone horribly wrong!

On a sidenote, I actually saw a VW bus turned into a ST:TOS shuttle. It was pretty cool, actually. He was selling it.

Ok, so I am a geek.

I do have to admit that there's one cool thing about 'em...the cabover design that puts the driver at the very nose. I always liked the cabover type designs and have always wished that there were more passenger vehicles that used that...

You're kidding right?

We have a bunch of these ugly things coughing along on the roads here.
It's like the nextbest kind of transportation if you can't afford a pair of decent running shoes..

This "vehichle" has the maneuverability of a foldable sun bed!!

I have to say that this particular speciment looks very well maintained. Over here they rust away in, like 6 months or so..

Freestyler

I used to think they were cool when I was a kid as well. Then I drove a Mitsubishi version for the computer sweatshop that I worked for after graduating college. I was hit by an inattentive driver who made a left turn directly into the front driver corner of the van. After everything stopped, I could only get out of the seat by lifting one leg out of what remained of the footwell at a time, and get out via the slider. I'll never drive a vehilce like that again. How I got through that accident with only a lump on the head is beyond me. Thank God for seat belts.
