Lip Protection

What's the best lip balm? I'm looking for a good lip balm with sun screen as well as moisturizer. Last year I was walking through the perfume section of a department store and asked a sales lady what she recommended, she reached under her counter and just gave me a Germaine Monteil(?) lip balm. It was wonderful, not too sure how much it blocked in the way of UV rays, but it felt good and lasted. It must have cost like $20.

Lately, I've seen guys with zinc oxide on their lips when they go sailing. Are there any nice lip balms that contain zinc oxide that won't make me look clownish?

I'm an insescent whistler, so lib balm is actually pretty important to me!

I've been very happy with KARITE-LIPS, which I get at Whole Foods (Fresh Fields) grocery store. It has a lot of something called "shea butter". It doesn't feel greasy like Chapstick either.

There's a website listed on the tube:click here

Yeah, I feel kinda funny recommending lip balm to another dude.

PS I checked the website and the cost per tube is $5.50, which is what the store charges also.

Here's a quote from the site:

"SHEA Butter contains fatty acid triglycerides (mainly oleic and stearic)and a high amount of unsaponifiable matters which can range from 2.5 % to 15 %.),this exceptionally rich vegetable extract contains fatty acids, Phytosterol and unsaponifiables, who stimulate the skin natural renewal process. The composition of the product however depends on several criteria particularly its geographic origin, its botanical origin and the way it has been processed (time during which the nuts have been dried, ripeness...) Crude Shea Butter has natural antioxidant properties due to its content in tocopherols.

COSMETIC USE:
As all vegetable fats, Shea Butter has soothing , moisturizing and protecting effects.Due to the presence of a sizable quantity of unsaponifiable matters, its content in vitamins and other active elements. It displays a protecting role against UV rays because of its content in cinnamic acid and can thus be incorporated in solar products. The latex contained in shea butter would moreover prevent certain sun allergies.

SHEA BUTTER has also an activity on cell regeneration and capillary circulation. This favors the healing of small wounds, dermites, cracks, crevices, skin ulcers. In the cosmetic field, this property is an asset against skin aging.it has restructuring effects on the epidermis, it has an anti-elastase characteristic which makes it a good active ingredient against stretch marks. It is very well tolerated by the skin for it does trigger any allergic reaction and can even be used on very sensitive skin areas such as mucous tissues and around the eyes. It is therefore an outstanding product for cosmetic ,even incorporated in high proportions.it can be used in anti -aging products, moisturizing creams for dehydrated, irritated, scaly skins.. "

ya know, in times bms (before my son) I was going sailing all the time on Chesapeke, but in Delaware my lips never got chaffed. However, I ALWAYS came home bleeding from various cuts ( outboard in my Capri 18 has no reverse or idle, plus Catalina Yachts decided that boom does not have to be supported prior to setting the main ). Made me feel kinda manly and rugged

Howdy jamesnj,
Here in the deset my lips have blistered so I need lip balm that blocks those bad rays. Chap Stick has a SPF 30. Natural Ice has a SPF 15. But the one that I use is called LIPS and has a SPF 20 and is made by Jason Natural Cosmetics. I get it at the health food store. Another one I use that doesn't have any SPF protection is Lip Shtick. Get that at the health food store also.
