Happy Father's Day to all of the Dad's out there!
I'm doing this early, because I'm rarely surfing the forum on weekends...
To all of you guys who chose the thankless task of being a "Father"... ...A holiday totally eclipsed in scope by the couterpart known as "Mother's Day"... ...You quietly keep your household in some semblance of "organized chaos" yet are constantly faulted for "not pulling your weight"... ...you wear worn-out 7-yr old shoes to work so that your kid can sport sneakers that cost more than your first car... ...you play "bouncer" at the front door to all of the riff-raff out there who want to get next to your daughter, at the chagrin of "said" party! ...your attempts at repairing your MB provides a sense of satisfaction for you, but your spouse complains of the smells, dirt and such that accompany those tasks...even if your repair savings netted a trip to Cancun... ...even as the "Royal Unyielding Head of Household", your kid(s) know you are more of a pushover than Mom, and you succumb, knowing that you will have to deal with the "real" boss for the consequences... ...you let your kids engage in risky activities simply because Mom wouldn't even let them out of the house if she could do so! What? You think YOUR mom let you do those crazy stunts you pulled as a kid? Only Dad's understand...and have the battle scars to prove that they too, engaged in those activities... A tip of the MB cap and a toast to all of you Dads experiencing these things right now, and to those new Dads learning how to be a Dad without help from the "Dad repair CDs". My daughter's birthday usually falls on Father's Day weekend (and this year, it is on a Sunday), so I NEVER actually celebrate Father's Day...sigh, another Dad to be forgotten! Happy Father's Day!

G-Benz,
What a nice post! It sounds like Fathers day for you is overshadowed by your daughters birthday. My Fathers birthday is always overshadowed by Christmas. Since yours is overshadowed, I'll try to make up for it by wishing you a happy Fathers day. Everyone, I wish that all of you could meet G-Benz in person. I recently had this honor and confirmed my expectations. He is a Great Guy! Happy Fathers Day, PS, you couldn't get a pair of shoes at Goodwill for a price less than my first car. It was literally from the junk yard and cost $12.50. It was almost $100 later before I was driving it. LB |
