Red face This oughta make you chuckle, the laffs on me!!

Last evening I go to my Dad's house to check on things, He's in an elderly care facility. His cars haven't been run for quite a while so I figured I'd crank um up and let them run awhile. His pristene Lincoln Towncar is really dusty so I pull it out of the carport to rinse it off. After putting the car in park and getting out, I shut the door and hear the shocking sound of the automatic door locks engaging ! Holy smokes!! The keys are in the ignition with the engine running!! The other set of keys is 17 miles away!!
Can't get any worse!! Wrong!! Just as I'm trying to remember the keypad code a bolt of lightning and simultaneous thunder announce the beginning of a deluge that will pound me for the next 40 minutes!!
O.K. "Don't panic" I say to myself. Unfortunately I'm not very convincing. There has to be another key somewhere, right?? Wrong. After turning the house upside down, no key. I'm past the point of feeling stupid now, I'm all the way up to idiotic. Back out in the rain at the keypad on the door. After trying 27,342 combinations I give up and call the wife to bring the other keys. This is a difficult call for reasons of a similar nature involving her, and I wasn't very sympathetic with her. So, here I am wet, feeling like a fool and even worse, down to my last beer! Noooooo!!! Go out and try one more time.
Miraculously I hit the correct sequence and the locks pop up!! Thank you GOD!! Call the wife and tell her to turn around. I didn't even look her in the eye when I got home, all she said was "You owe me one" and I think she snickered.

That's the amazing part! I have never known the exact combination and still don't!! All I knew was that the first two digits were the birth month of his stepdaughter. The rest was just luck! But you can bet that I don't do it again, or at least I hope I don't.

Damn. That sux big time capn. Glad you managed to get everything squared away with thew car at least.

I guess its time for a trip to the flower shop, and a reservation for a nice dinner to make it up to the wife.

Don't ya hate automatic door locking on cars?

Every alarm I ever had that had that feature, it was the first thing I disabled.... Getting the keys locked in the car like that has happened to me before when the alarm would auto engage the locks whent he ignition was on.

My son told me a story that made mine pale in comparison. He and a friend were riding one night in the friends brand new Mustang. On a deserted section of highway, they had stopped to take a whizz. They get out and "click", the doors lock behind them!! They try to pull the windows down but no luck. Then they see headlights coming over the other side of the hill!!! The car owner backs away and puts his boot through the drivers side window! I'm glad I didn't have to do that!!

At least the engine didn't overheat! I had a roomate do that and had to get out the trusty slim-jim to open his door. I am glad my 123 doesn't do that or I would be posting a similar story.

This one too..

One day my wife went to the supermarket and gave me a call at home. She said the van (Mazda MVP) won't start. So I put my shoes on, loaded my tool box and jumper cables in the truck and drive all the way down to the market. Of course while I am driving there I am trying to think why the van won't start and ways to fix it. So I get there and get in and turn the key over while looking at the instrument panel to see if any idiot lights were on, and notice the van in DRIVE!! She had not put the car in PARK just turned it off. No wonder it wont start...I put the car in PARK turned the key over and it started.. I did not say anything... just got my tool box and left...I still laugh about that one..

This is why I've made it a habit of, whenever I need to shut the door to a running vehicle with power locks, I roll the driver's window down.
