I feel bad for the guy, but I ALWAYS do my homework before buying a car and most importantly NEVER...I repeat NEVER buy a car with a salvage/rebuilt title if you intend to make it roadworthy again...PERIOD!!!

I got as far as to the day before he flew home.

The buyer did a whole lot of mistakes. The first being that he did not have the car inspected by a specialist, it would have been much simpler for him to have Montoya bring the car to a specialist dealer and have them look at it....He didn't, instead he comes by himself, to test drive a car while he never tried one out first...I mean before buying any used car you just have to know how a good one handles....he would have noticed immediatly that the engine wasn't good and the handling was wobbly...

Not getting any proof of him paying in excess of 10 grand cash to someone is foolish as well. Finally, he should have walked the minute he noticed the spacers on the wheels and the exhaust leak...he specifically asked if there were spacers on it and the guy said no

Even though I feel sorry for him there's just too many things he did wrong on the deal.

My opinion,,,,, I don't believe a word of the story. Just too many things happening in perfect order. This person is a pretty good writer though with a great imagination.

I dunno, sometimes you can be clouded by the fact that you've found your dream car, and you can forget little problems when you see them (like the dint, paint on the steering wheel, ect).

That's too true, and why you should try to take a third party "non-interested" person with you. I do this for my firends, and they do it for me. You have to have another set of eyes when looking at "passion" cars.

A mechanical inspection would have found the car to be a POS.

I also would not buy a car at that distance. You're under too much pressure to buy the car having spent time and money on travel. I just don't need any car in my life that much.

I hope like hell the guys gets his money back and that thief at least gets fired from his job. Too bad for his wife and kids, but that's what you get when you lay with dogs.

I just told the Diesel Discussion group a couple days ago that Florida is home to every sleazeball running every kind of scam known to mankind. When it comes to car scams, Miami/Ft. Lauderdale is the worst. Let this be a lesson to you.

WOW, the first half of the story left me speechless. I wonder what this person's age is? There are many lessons that should have been learned at an early age to prevent this from occurring.

The biggest lesson, NEVER BASE A CONTRACT ON A HANDSHAKE! Always have everything in writing.

So that wasn't the end of the story, Duckmuck can you post the rest of it?

duck did post look for hsi thread with conclusiuon in it.

To break it down, the buyer made several mistakes.

The moment I had found out the seller had lied, I would have left, but thats just me.

1. he didn't get the car inspected by a mechanic NO PPI.
2. He took the sellers word for it.
3. He didn't get a signed receipt.
4. HE should have known something was wrong when he drove the car and it seemed sluggish
5. damage to the dash and glove box? that should have been a red flag to get it put on a lift and checked.
6. he flew all the way to florida having no idea how an e30 M3 drives or should sound or feel.
