Strange Home Improvement

Question for you? My a/c is broken and I will need the entire system to be replaced. I do not mind sleeping with the windows open, except that the windows that I have in my house do not have any provisions for a screen. What I was thinking about doing is just installing a screen door to my bedroom so that I may sleep with the windows open until the new a/c unit is installed. I could hang a bug zapper inside to help with the mosquitos. After the a/c unit, I am getting my windows upgraded and they will definately have screens.

Bug Zappers only work on Moths and are you kidding

Buy a $150 Home Depot window shaker ac unit until help arrives. Problem solved.

I was thinking about the window unit, but the house is old, I am moving and I am only replacing the a/c unit so that I will not have problems when I go to sell it. The house was built back in the 1840's and it is showing its age.

Might want to reconsider the window shaker... Home Depot has one now on sale for $85 ! I think that a screen door, might come close to that. Besides, with a/c, your stuff won't get all damp and musty/moldy.

I say just grin and bear it with the heat. Putting a screen door inside the house is a bit unusual. Just wait for the a/c to be fixed.

O.K., I'll bite.. What other reason would someone do that???

I also get this mental picture of waking up in a secure bed, but in a house full of skeeters, possums, cats and candle moths!!!

Buy some screen material and some duct tape. Install the screens on the outside of your bedroom windows. Either use duct tape. Packaging tape or some sticky ribon sealer from 3M (item 8611) , that is used on cars. it will hold the screen in place and you can rub it off when your done with it.

Man, are you guys reading my mind or what?? I am going through a central heat/air install right now that will take 3 weeks, and bought 2 window units at hd last week for $250 total!! They had some for like $90, but the ones I got have a digital thermostat and a remote!! I am going to keep them as back ups or put them in the duck camp, ect...
Three weeks narwhal, what did you do to that guy to make him take so long? 3 days should do it unless you had radiators or nothing at all before.
I just bought a Walmart 6000 btu Fedders($170) to keep the heat out of our greenhouse/sunroom until the new central unit goes in. The remote was really neat but after three of these cheap made in China junkers I went to Best Buy and got a Whirlpool 8000. It has a power savings feature that turns the unit all the way off when it reaches its temp. Cool and quiet.$220
