rain/storm tragedy in atlanta this PM

tragedy this afternoon. tree falls over roadway, striking car.
father (driver) walks aways, but his wife and 2 kids are killed, only 1/2 block from firehouse.

it really hit home for me, as it was in my old neighborhood on a street that i walked almost every day. this is an old section, and has many huge old trees.

less than 2 weeks ago, another man was killed by a falling tree in the same area as he set waiting the rain to let up before going into his house. he had been at georgia tech for several years, and was scheduled to return to his home (overseas) in only a few short days.

ya just never know.

Tell me about it. Two young ladies were standing in the middle of an intersection on Queens blvd here in Queens, the light went red before they could make it all the way across so they waited on the crossing island. An X5 driver coming from the cross street decides to run the red light and collides with a subaru driver coming off a green light. The impact flips the SUV on its roof and it slides on to the crossing island killing the young woman standing there and critically injuring her friend. The drivers survived. This happened yesterday on a section I pass everyday.

Not far from here a family traveling down a main highway got blindsided by a tractor trailer rig when the truck ran a stop sign. The family was in a Neon and four of the five people died in the fire that consumed both vehicles. The 36 year old father managed to get out and watch his family die, but he died the next day. The truck driver was not from this country and can not speak english. He is in jail right now on charges of vehicular homicide. The family was from out of state here on vacation.

Spock,
Please do look at were you're biking (ie. the trail) instead of looking up in the trees. I bet you will bike much longer this way

Spock,
I hope you don't take this hard, this was a little joke.

BTW, The second lady that was hit by that flipped BMW X5 on Queens Blvd in NY died. I drive there very often and remember when everyone was going 50mph minimum. Now I don't exceed 30 but it is amazing how difficult it is not to go faster if the road is 3 lanes wide. There used to be cops all over the blvd but now I don't see them there anymore unless something happens.

If there ever was a road that screams for pedestrian walkways over it, Queens Blvd is it!
I take an express bus down QB everyday and the bus drivers easily exceed 50mph on some sections. And you're right 300se6.3 the cops have dissappeared all of a sudden

Yal,

Here at in Queens do you live? Although I am in the Bay Area right now, I live Jamaica/St. Albans, Queens, down off of Liberty Avenue/Farmers Blvd.
