Talking New to the forum

Just wanted to get the first post out of the way! I've been reading quite a bit of the discussions over that past couple of weeks - and the information has been very helpful. I'm not a current benz owner "yet" - but I am in the process of finding one that fits me. My past obsessions have been Corvettes. I have owned 4 including a '80 blk t-top, '87 dk red coupe, '95 blk rose cp, and a '01 Z06. I'm still crazy about the american HP, but I've always admired the german styling. My family has previouly own a 280SE, and that's probably what sparked my interest - it was always a very solid car. Anyway, I just wanted to say hey...

Hi, I've been lurking here for a couple of years, but only recently started to post. There's a lot of great information and many helpful and knowledgable people here. I'm also a Vette fan too. I had a 1972 Silver Coupe and currently own a 1989 Metallic Charcoal Coupe. Ever since I test drove a 450SEL in the mid-80's, I've always wanted a Benz. That early 70's 450SEL had 150K miles on it, and it was still solid yet nimble, and fast. 3 years ago, I finally bought one, a 1995 E420, Smoke Silver with 39k miles. It now has 86k miles, and is my daily commute car.

Welcome to Mercedesshop! Lots of us Benz owners are aficiandos of other makes and models, boats, motorcycles, you name it!

As far as vettes, my Dad & I use to do the show car circuit with a '69 t-top. Silver w/ hunter green interior (unusual factory combo, but it would grow on you). PO kinda de-OEM'ed the car (427 hood, 350 ci motor, debadged, white-letter Firestones instead of the redline Goodyears). Car did fairly well in some shows, but did poorly at Bloomington Gold competitions (duh).

Still wanting to obtain a '63 split window someday...

Welcome tot he Forum CarGuy, since you have vettes in your blood, and that taste for Speed and Horsepower, you may want to look into finding a nice 500E for a great wolf in sheeps clothing. of course you can always buy an AMG model, E55, C32, SLK32 etc etc, for the modern Mercedes hotrods.

My dad had a 68 vette convertible, it was an orangy red color with black interior. It was fast, but handling left something to be desired, especially int he rain.. . It had a 327 motor, Weiand manifold, holley carb, and hurst shifter. The car went like a bat out of hell, as my dad always puts it.

It was a blast when he had it, being 18 at the time, and getting to drive it now and then, it was great, and people used to stare at that car, because it was beautiful.

He has always had Mb's, and to this day, almost everyone in my family has an mb.

My dad has a 94 SL600 and a 2003 SL500 is on order, with a delivery date sometime in the near future.

My older brother has a 1985 380SL, 170k and still going strong.

I have a 1992 300CE, 100k and still going strong...

My oldest brother has an ML430.

My aunt has an 87 420SEL

my uncle has an 79 300D.

My other uncle also has an 80 300D

My grandfather used to have a 450 SEL 6.9.

My father has previously owned an 86 560SL, two 85 190E's (one was my moms, other was my older brothers), and an 87 560SEL.

Every car has been wonderful. Mercedes is definately in my families blood and will continue to flow through our veins, because we are all hooked on Mercedes.

My younger brother is now looking at possibly getting rid of his Range Rover and buying a 400E/E420. I've been trying to convince him for the last year to get one.

Thanks for the wonderful welcome!

Yes, I'm sure I still have Vettes in the blood - when I told my friends and family I was looking for a MB, they couldn't believe it. I'm planning a slow migration I would love to start a project with a 280CE and a V8 small block - but it's really hard to find kits and information on how to do that kind of stuff. I really like the MB from the site www.badbenz.com - however, I would have to go with a standard tranny. I'm still not sure how you guys fell about gutting an MB - and I hope I'm not booed off the forum but old amercian pushrod power still sparks me. Ashman - I would love a 500E or anything AMG, but money is an issue for now.

Thanks again

Ashman,

I can't believe all the cars your father has had. At the risk of being nosy, what does he do for a living? How can he afford all these?

This is classified information.

You should also know that, to the ladies, the SL500, SL600, Rolls, and other various automobiles are mine. Well..it's a MAFIA thing...

Got a '00 E320, '00 C280 and '94 E320 in this stable.
