I'm considering buying a mercedes 280 ce
It has another engine in it from the make and model

what common mechanical issues should I look for?

What year is it??

The pic in my signature is a 72 280C ...Carburated.
Most common problem on these older ones was cracking on the frame wear the stearing box was mounted. Easily repaired with a welder. Look for hairline cracks on the frame just under the driver side wheel well. Good luck
