Villanova Students: We Don't Want 'Big Bird' As Commencement Speaker Actor Who Portrays Character Getting Degree

Villanova University seniors, who spent up to $112,000 on tuition in their four years, are under whelmed by news that the actor who plays Big Bird will be this year's commencement speaker.
Caroll Spinney, who has portrayed the tall yellow-feathered bird for more than 30 years on "Sesame Street," will address the class on May 16. Senior Joe Mordini, a columnist for the Villanovan, the student newspaper, said there are "other people who also embody truth and loyalty and love and other values of the university without also being iconic to the pre-school class."
School officials said Spinney, who published a book last year called "The Wisdom of Big Bird," has a positive message for students -- and won't show up in costume.
Spinney will receive an honorary degree. Spokeswoman Barbara Clement said he was chosen by a committee that includes the student government president. The Reverend Edmund Dobbin, university president, called Spinney a "world-class educator."

He also portray's "Oscar, the Grouch" on the show, I wonder if they were hoping for a "two-fer." Apparently, the other 39 candidates that the university committee weren't as good as Spinney. You have to wonder who else was on the list. . . the Count . . . Bert . . . Ernie . . . Grover . . . Elmo . . .

I use Incredimail for my email. It automatically imports all email from my hotmail account. All I had to do was right-click on the image and click on "import into incredimail" and it's added to my list of signatures!
