An Ebay Scam

I thought I saw this mentioned somewhere here recently; some guy in Malibu supposedly sold a '96 C36 for $10k, the theory being he didn't know how to set a reserve.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2425013753

Turns out the seller (legally) scammed the auction. The main photo showed the C36 and AMG logos, but the description just said "1996 C Class" and the engine description was "I don't know" (curious for a claimed original owner of an AMG). The car was actually a C220; the buyer left a complaint in the feedback section, and I'm sure he won't close the deal ($10k for a '96 C220 with 99k is a bit much).

Be careful out there.

Thanks for the heads-up

You don't need a carfax account. The VIN only clearly shows that this is a 1996 C220. The cheater put the C36 and AMG logos on the car.

VIN: WDBHA22E2TF368104
Year/Make/Model: 1996 MERCEDES BENZ C220
Body Style: Sedan 4 DR
Engine Type: 2.2L L4 EFI
Manufactured In: GERMANY

the description shows 1996 C36 AMG LKS (LKS as in Looks I guess)

I feel sorry for the buyer who was mislead by the lks text, which to me is confusing.

C36

The seller was clearly deceitful here, but I also blame the buyer. Anybody who know what a C36 is should have known that this car is not a C36 by the interior color and lack of carbon fiber on the B-Pillar.

the seller was at the least misleading,
but... the buyer was just plain STUPID !!! :(

NO amount of law/policing/handholding etc,etc,etc
will help a consumer with this level of intelligence.

its the same pepople who show up at the antiques roadshow telling how they "stold" a tiffany lamp from a yokel who didnt know what it was, only to find out their precious cargo isnt what they were so convinced it was. a sucker and his $ .....

im just glad some vulture didnt get the very early indian blanklet away from the guy who brought it in to the show in a plastic walmart shopping bag. he was just a poor dirt farmer and had NO IDEA that the blanket was worth like $500K
