extending IR remote control
 

Our minivan is set up with a VCR player and DVD player in separate cabinets. It would be nice to be able to use the remote with the cabinet doors closed. I remember seeing someone's home stereo system kept in a closed cabinet with some sort of device that sticks to the IR receiver of the component with a wire that runs to another device that's left in plain sight. Where can I find something like that?

You're looking for an IR "blaster" which is a powered device which transmits the IR signal from a "target" to the IR window of the device. Check www.smarthome.com/8225.html for their items, but you might be able to find it cheaper elsewhere.

I think you're looking for remote control extenders. Crutchfield has about 25 types.
