What's the best PO stuff you've discovered in your car?

As for me, I finally decided to take the back seat bottom out of my 87 420 and mixed in with the melted hard candies, $3.14 in change (going in the timing chain fund), hairpins, hairclips, and leaky ballpoints were five Polaroids of the previous owner post-op from her facelift! They were taken several weeks apart showing the progress of her healing. Dated in '91 and I discovered them in '03. She looked like someone had gone at her with a bat. She was not the owner I bought it from but the one before that. Since I had her address on some old service records, I couldn't resist and packed up the photos in an envelope and posted them to her without a return address.

Haven't ever found anything really cool in a car I bought. But was fun when I worked at a auto wrecking yard to dig thru the "new" cars that came in. Got a pretty good selection of hand tools that way, along with alot of spare change. Worst was a car that came in that a fella had got shot in the head in It was kind of a mess.

I bought a motorcycle on ebay this summer. In one of the saddlebags I found a book in Bulgarian. In the other saddlebag was a cycle cover I hadn't expected, which was nice.

Those R129 map packets are pretty stealthy...most people forget they are even there.

I guess the PO did too, since he/she left his 9mm handgun in it!

Is it "your" 9 mm now?

When my dad bought his 126, he found an Ozzy Osbourne tape under the rear seat of the car. More recently, the Jeep Grand Cherokee that he and my mom purchased came with a really crappy country CD--missed by the PO and the dealership that took it in on trade!

I wish! Actually that story was told to me by the salesman who sold me the R129. This was discovered when they were prepping another R129 that came in from a trade-in. They called the PO and the PO promptly arrived to pick up his "belonging" without question.

I'm waiting to get a car formerly owned by Jon Voight! (Seinfield afficiandos will get that one).

Gold wedding ring. Hmmm. Gold is getting up there now. Maybe a good time to sell the thing. But its one of those really thin things - not much weight.

There is a story I've heard several times on the news about people who have bought vehicles from US property auctions. Turns out the US auctions off vehicles that have been seized from drug dealers and mules. Well, those things have been bought by people who then got stopped at the border and more drugs found. One spent over a year in Mexican prison before the US would even admit the source of the car.

When my car was purchased no good items were found, unless you count several packets of fuses in the glovebox; and extensive service records (the oldest one that I can come across with quick inspection was back on December 20, 1993, when the car had 18,000 miles).

One of my brother's cars (87 190DT 2.5) had several french fries in it (i wouldn't doubt it seein' as to what the owner looked like, no wonder the seats needed re-padding).

I'll post anymore things I remember..

Have a great day,
Joshua

Found in our 300TE after purchase

11 CDs... in the 10 CD changer! 10 in the magazine and 1 still in the play location. Once I got them all out the changer worked fine. Unfortunately, not many of the CDs were our taste in music.

On an R129 trade in I was doing the safety inspection on (to prep it for the used car lot) In the drivers door pcket I found a small supply of (new, thankfully) Trojans.

Now, usually on those I'll pop the front screws out for the drivers seat cushion and pull the cushion out to check for stuff under the seat. Not on this one, didn't like the "imagery" off finding "used" ones under there . In the trunk on that one, I did find some fancy hand lotion that my wife really liked.

Usually about all I found (that was useful) would be pocket change. You could alway tell the cars that were driven by guys who wore loose fitting pants and the seat backrest laid most of the way back (I hate this "lowrider" seating position BTW, they look silly (what, do they think they're Tom Cruise flying an F14?) and uncomfortable as all heck, I've tried it on customer cars where I didn't want to mess with the seat position) because those were the cars the seat was full of change.

On ML's that were being checked out, or the ones we had to repair a seat or the dreaded seat belt buckle inspection recall job, MAN you should see some of the crap under the seats, especially the ones with kids. Bad aim (getting food into their mouths) and bad teeth is about all these kids have to look forward to. Fries, gummy bears, gum (sometimes abc gum )
sweet tarts, man, you name it. Yucky jobs, guys.

Gilly

Oh yeah. When i inherited my dad's '67 Ford pickup(he bought it new) a few years ago, in the glove box was every license registration all the way back to 1967! Thought that was kinda cool.

In our 88 corolla found and old Stethoscope and one of those ear thingies that doctors use to see into your ear, came from the previous owner. The Stethoscope didn't really work.

We had a trade that turned up a 32 calibre nickle plated revolver from under the front seat. It had been there for a long time and was rusted solid inspite of the nickle plate. I called the lady and she came and picked it up. She said she had forgotten about it being there. I told her not to count on it ever working again.
