Lightbulb Another useful Japanese idea.

TOKYO -- A Sept. 1 change in the laws governing alcohol sales in Japan allows for home delivery of wine and beer along with pizza.

According to the Asahi Shimbun, the relaxed rules have pizza delivery services, such as Four Seeds Corp., which operates the Pizza-La chain, and Kentucky Fried Chicken Japan Ltd., which runs Pizza Hut stores, excited about the change.

Florists are also getting in on the act, with one store set to promote alcohol and bouquet sales under the phrase, "Let's offer flowers and wine (to your girlfriend)."

Over the next two years, the number of stores marketing alcoholic drinks is expected to increase from 100,000 to 110,000, according to estimates by beverage manufacturer, Suntory Ltd.

According to the report, sales of alcoholic beverages plunged from 6.87 trillion yen (U.S. $59 billion) in 1994 to 5.72 trillion yen (U.S. $49 billion) in 2001, according to alcohol industry estimates. Beer sales were especially hard hit; purchases have declined for 40 consecutive months through July 2003.

Hoping deregulation will help reverse the trend, alcohol manufacturers are developing new products and strengthening sales promotions. Sapporo Breweries Ltd. has produced a miniature bottle of wine priced at just 100 yen (U.S. 86 cents) specially designed for sale at pizza delivery outlets.

When I was in San Diego several years ago, I was under the impression that California allows liquor stores to be combined with all kinds of businesses. We were going to the laundromat in El Cajon and there was a shop that was a liquor store on one side and a gun shop on the other.

That's just what the world needs, liquor and guns sold in the same store

I'll have a #3 combo meal and "Super Size" the beer!

So what?

In Germany you can order a beer via pizza service, you can order it with your cab company, can get it at Mc Donalds.

No big deal.

Kind regards

Beer at McDonalds, no wonder Germany is so bass ackwards when it comes to foreign policy if their local policy allows for beer at McD's.
Doesn't seem to have hurt their car-building capabilities though.

Yes...I remember ordering a pizza and a three "green talls" (as we called whatever beer that was) when attending school in Germany ( in Schwaebisch Gmuend). After the pizza I would cross the parking lot and purchase a pack of marlboro lights with a 5 mark piece from the cigarette machine. In the parking lot I would stroll by numerous manual transmission Diesel Mercedes and drool. What a country!!

Almost every time I hear about someone getting a OUIL is they were going to get smokes or more booze.

So I conclude beer and smoke delivery will save lives and help mankind in general.

We like that here in the US, it means our kids can go somewhere and eat without some loudmouth drunkards slopping around in front of them
For me, it is a much scarier thought than seeing drunk people that it is no big deal for this kids to get guns.

Kind regards
Eberhard

First off it is illegal for anyone under 18 to buy a gun. Second drunk people kill 100 times more people with their cars and fist than guns. Tit for tat.

21 years ago I took european delivery on a 911SC. During my factory tour I noticed they had half liter bottles of beer in the vending machines at the break stations.
I also noticed how they used blue lock-tite on the bolts holding the brake calipers.

I wonder if they still have those? In the Army we converted an old Coke machine to a beer machine it turned out to be a very profitable venture while it lasted. Once command got wind of it, it had to go, thanks to tattle tales who were mad because we would not give them free beer when they were broke.
