Changing picture size and format for attaching?
OK I have Adobe Photodelux 2.0. I have seen picture on the web that are JPEGs, that are very large and are only 50-60K in size. Well under the 64K limit.
How do you convert these photos?? I have many a photo but once I convert them down to 64K they are extremely small and hard to get any detail out of them. What am I doing wrong. I have tried converting to GIF, and for diagrams that is fine. The large black and white diagram in a Gif format is 20-25K. But if I take the jpeg photo and without doing anything in photodeluxe 2.0 to the photo I just convert it to gif. It actually uses MORE bytes. A 435K jpeg converted to 1072K in gif. How about a little lesson in photo sizeing and what format to use for us software amatures, Dave

JPEG's are naturally compressed. First off, view the image at its actual size, 100%. This will be the screen size. Now crop away any extraneous stuff that you don't want. Then resize the image to what you think is a good size for the screen. For most purposes 3" wide should be good and should take up many kb's.

Photodeluxe is a really funky program with a very non-intuitive interface. Someone who has specific experience with it will have to answer this. I have it at home, but probably will not get to it tonight.

I use PaintShop Pro.
When you save a JPEG in PaintShop Pro, you can choose the quality (compression) of the pic by moving a slider. For use on the web, i usually compress a JPEG to 1/5 - 1/10 of it's original size in Kb, without noticable degraded quality. -I don't resize the picture (area) unless i have to, since it doesn't cut the size in Kb nearly as much as altering the JPEG's quality. I use photoshop LE and cut down on the DPI using JPEG, for email or posting you don't need as high resolution as you do in printing...........

Dave, I finally got around to looking at it. You cannot change the compression/quality settings in Photo Deluxe. You'll have to use another program for that. I've been flamed here before when making a recommendation, so email me and I'll tell you how I do it.
