725 horse Honda ? -I'm feeling sick!

I took up a magazine from a student who was supposed to be working. On the cover was a Honda engine that claimed to have 725 horsepower. This seems both unreal and unfair. This magazine is full of horsepower parts for these cars. I cannot even get an extra 100 horses out of my 300E. I think I am going to be sick! Please Help! (I'll be in the latrine)

It wouldn't be tough to get 500hp out of a 3.2L MB engine. It would be expensive. I wouldn't start with an M103, but an M104 for the much better breathing head. Then, I'd pressurize the induction system (turbo or supercharger) and add some big nitrous on top of that.

Should be good for at least 500 ponies. Not sure about how long it would last, though.

you can get that kind of power out of a honda, but you lose a ton of driveability, and it costs a ton. For that kind of power, u need at least a stage 3 clutch to get the power down(can anyone say rough ride?), forced induction of some sort, bored out pistons, tuning out the ying yang, stand alone fuel management yada yada yada. Chances are that is a drag only car with a differant motor(for example, putting an H22 prelude motor into an integra, or a b18c integra motor into a civic, could even be a CRX hybrid motor). Fact is, that car would more than likely be next to impossible to drive on the street, where as you see MB's rolling around with 600hp that are daily drivers.

And how much fun is tearing down and rebuilding a Honda motor on Mondays after each race weekend?

actually if built right the motors can last a decently long time. Your taking a stock motor and more than tripiling it's output, so obviously it won't have the "legendary honda reliability", but i know for a fact you can make a 245hp daily driver integra with at least decent reliability. Its all how the motor is built, mainly the bottom end. I know 245hp is a far cry from 725, but you get my point. Those 245hp tegs put to shame alot of V-8's and BMW's though..... I wonder what the 1/4 mile time for that honda is? 9's??

150 horses is plenty when you can keep the weight approx 370 lbs.

I think they had this one rated at 1000+ hp. It was in a NOPI drag car.

I dunno but you ever been to the drag races G? Those guys teardown and rebuild between runs while drinking beer and eating hotdogs at the same time. Simpler but still pretty amazing.

To anyone interested, here is how the Japanese tuners do it :

http://www.exvitermini.com

click on "movies", select "nagata-san" and "various" and prepare to be amazed...

0 to 300 km/h in 13.72 seconds, on a street car, driven daily...

It would be a disgrace if one of those cars was unreliable, so the gold Supra you see in Nagata's videos is sold with a two year unlimited mileage warranty for the engine and gearbox...the car has 750 bhp, which would make approx 780-800 hp...

The best part is, for 50 grand + a used skyline, you could have the same kind of power...

the supra is a completely differant animal than a honda. You can easily have a reliable supra with 500+ hp as a daily driver.

The last 320hp Supra Turbo was so below it's true capability. Without much effort those cars can make 400-450hp, and with a little determination and cash can exceed 500hp. They are quite rare and finding one in unabused form is tough. However, they make suberb performance platforms, and can outrun most anything once pushed a little.

The last version was very expensive (over $60Kcdn) and didn't sell all that well. Too bad they weren't $40K new! The Mazda dealer we have the 626 serviced at has sold all it's RX8's thanks to it's sub $40K price tag.
