my other forum
i was just thinking about the differences between MS and my other forum (motorcycle).
1stly- the other forum (OF hereforward) is generally younger, but has many old-farts as well. this fact surfaces typically in lots of name calling, offers to race or fight, tons of im faster than you, spoofed pics etc, but the end result is that its all in good fun. hardley anyone ever gets mad or is offended. admittly, the topics tend to stay on the bikes, with little poli/relig threads (and those are in a seperate forum), but the overall tone of their "open disc" forum is almost always light and friendly. 2ndly- the singular thing that constantly impresses me with the OF is the willingness to "pitch-in" and help the members. example: plenty of crashes, and frequently others come to the rescue with parts and more importantly expertise and labor to help the fallen rider get back on the road. best example happened recently. a long time member whose financial situation had changed with a child on the way and going back to school for additional training, had mentioned that he hadnt been riding much because his tires were not great and that he needed to conserve $ for the upcoming obligations rather than buying new skins. several members that knew him well and lived close took up a donation, planned their covert actions with his wife, and when the member got home from school on his birthday, he found his friends in his driveway with a new set of top-notch tires installed on his bike. needless to say, he was overwhelmed and extremely happy, probably more about his forum friends than the actual tires. im sure good friendships have formed here at MS, and there has also been charitable acts, but the tone of many of the threads in OD make me uneasy much of the time. just my thought for the day. |

Yeah, this "Open Season" forum has ruffled many feathers. But overall, it's great place to be. You just need thick skin, and use the 'ol golden rule (flame others as you would like to be flamed )
But the "on topic" forums, such as the Diesel forum, are the best I've seen so far. I use a couple other forums, and don't get near the helping hand as I do here. The friendliest I've found for just general chatting and BS'ing is MBCanada. A few of our members had a bad experience up there awhile ago, not sure why. I've found it nothing short of pleasant. In fact, I'm one of the mods there.
