Ever felt a little sheepish...?

Last winter I took my car to the dealer to find an annoying rattle in the steering column area. They drove the car, and couldn't find it. On the way home, I was furious! It was there, clear as day.

I cleaned EVERYTHING out of the car before taking down, so there was nothing moving around.

I went back and complained. I had cooled down, and calmly asked if they could check again. Good thing it took a few minutes to drive back!

Anyway, again they couldn't hear it. Okay.

On the way home, there it was again! Clear as day! The next morning I was running some errands and realized that there was a snap-clasp on my gloves that "clinked" and "rattled" while I was driving thanks to the minute vibrations through the steering wheel. Cripes did I feel terrible. I had them road test the car over again thanks to my stupidity.

I never fessed up, and just never raised the issue again...

Feeling "sheepish" sounds rather like a lonely Kiwi or Aussie to me. I know there are some ANZ on here, speak up....

a moron with dignity

I would go back to the dealer and apologize profusely. They will still think you're a moron but at least they will consider you a moron with dignity!

...and it'll raise your credibility and good name next time you deal with them. It pays to develop good relationships.

Sure have!

Years ago, I was with friends and was making fun of people with turret's syndrome, when a man who actually HAS turret's walked by with his mother. No joke; we'd seen him and his mother many times before.

I don't think they heard me or knew what I was doing, but I sure felt like an idiot. And I'm not proud of it.

A similar thing happened to me.

I had a vibration / clattering in the dash area and it was driving me crazy.

I finally realized that it was my new keychain that was hitting the dash as it swung back and forth.
