well, environmentalists prevented building more roads in PA, thus causing me to spend extra 2 hrs aday idling in traffic- can I sue them for lost time and expanded fuel??

mikemover 10-10-2003 12:49 AM

Hahaha...the whole lawsuit-mentality has gotten WAY out of hand! Even the enviro-hypochondriacs are in on it now! When will the madness end? Jeez!

Hey, on second thought....maybe I could sue some members of this board for disagreeing with me so often, thus making me spend time debating on this forum...Time that I could arguably be spending more profitably elsewhere! It's all their fault! I'll sue! Wow, I think I feel a bit of carpal tunnel coming on too...must be all that typing you guys make me do here! After all, it can't be MY fault! :D

Good for them.

While obviouslt a bit extreme, this is the kind of thing that needs to be enforced to protect our enviorment.

Has any one ever read Ishmael? No? Okay...

Ishmael showed me something interesting. The gorilla teacher of the novel pointed out that human's have one critical flaw. Human's see themselves at the center of the universe. Did God put us here? Did evolution put us here? It doesn't matter ... because both parties, deep down, believe that human's are the center of the earth.

And since we are God's creation, or the climax of evolution, we have a right to this world that no other creature has. While nature's sensitive eco-system has worked beatifully for hundreds of millions of years, human's pay no respect.

Imagine a group of tigers hunting Gazelles in Africa. The tigers take what they need, and keep going. The gazelles and tigers live together perfectly, because they Gazelles know that once or twice a weak, one of them will fall to the tiger. Likewise, another might fall to a group of wild dogs. The dogs, tigers, and gazelles all live in harmony.

But if humans wanted gazelles, we would hunt them all, capture them, and exterminate the tiger and dog competition. Humans believe they have a right to break nature's rules. Instead of living in harmony with the enviorment, we are, quite literally, trying to conquer it. It wont work.

The enviorment is very important. I am all for enforcement of emissions regulations.

Become one with nature.........................Then marinate it.......

Pete Geither 10-10-2003 09:42 AM

Why is it that animals are excused for any thing that they do because it is their nature. Humans just do what they do because it is their "nature". What's the difference?

A BIT extreme? A bit?... Perhaps you should re-read the article. If you think these kinds of lawsuits have ANY merit whatsoever...you're either not paying attention, or you are one of them (enviro-nazis).

what an idiotic notion

They are all running around trying to kill and eat each exept of course the gazelles they are trying to avoid being eaten. You call that harmony!!!!??????
I really dont think that the ones getting eaten are in complete accord with that situation.
Harmony is Mozart or the beatles or when I call someone an idiot and they are in complete agreement.

Scapicchio's Second Law: The most difficult thing in the world to do is to convince someone he's an idiot, even when you have substantial demonstrable evidence to prove it.

Humans are a disease on the planet..a small and passing thing, a thin layer of crud in future rock formations. Have nice day ;)

If someone really feels that way, their life must be a rather depressing one.

To show that I see both sides of a story, consider this:

All forms of life on this planet normally exist in balance....nature has built-in means of population control, disease control, etc...and harmony is the norm.

BUT....there are two forms of life that are exceptions to this rule: Two forms of life on this planet have developed a tendency to move into a given environment, exploit it until resources are depleted, then must either move on, or perish.

What are these two forms of life?...

HUMANS and VIRUSES.

Depressing, isn't it?

I wasn't being entirely serious! But I do think we are rather too smug as a species, particularly in our attitude to the rest of life.

Here's a thought..How would you react if a much more advanced alien race arrived, with much higher intellects etc., and used us for fish bait or whatever? It would be wrong, wouldn't it? They shouldn't have the right to do as they please because they are smarter (or have more MONEY ;) ) than us. But that's the attitude we take to everything else - eat it, shoot it, dig it up & burn it.

rickg 10-10-2003 12:19 PM

I think(I hope) he was saying that tongue-in-cheek(anyone ever figure out what he hell that saying really means, anyway:confused: :D ). I find myself saying that kind of a thing sarcastically everytime I hear these kind of enviro-hyper-response reports. As far as these extremists are concerned, us humans should just leave the planet NOW. Get off, before we do any more harm.
And don't get me going about whales getting beached. Crap, every time some whale gets him/herself beached, every tree hugger for miles arounds gathers to save the thing. Heck, ever heard of natural selection? These whales have been beaching themselves way before we were here, and they've done quite well, thank you very much.
Whew! I feel better:D
I'm not against being pro-enviroment and all, I just think if we worried about each other half as much as we worry about the damn spotted owl, it'd be a pretty peaceful world.
